I am looking for a set of 'A-Men' toys. As I recall, they came in a large cardboard tube, and were A-shaped building blocks with hook hands and feet, dimpled shoulders and heads for interlocking. I have only seen these made of wood, painted in several colors. Does anybody out there have a set for sale? I would be interested in a wood or plastic set.

I need some information on a BETTY LOU SPOON. It is silverplated. On the front handle is a little girl that looks like Shirley Temple when she was a little girl.Below that is the name "Betty Lou". The only other markings that I can see are the words silverplated on the back handle. I think it came from some cereal co. Any information would be appreciated.

Greetings! I have a six piece coffee and tea set marked "Fraunfelter" on the bottom. Fraunfelter was a part of the Ohio China Company. My service includes Electric coffee urn (with electrical works made by Royal Rochester), tea pot, large sugar and creamer and small sugar and creamer. The urn is dated 1924. The pattern is an art deco design. I saw a book that was copywritten in 1977 and it had the urn and large sugar and creamer. The appraisal then for the three pieces was $550. Does anyone know what my six pieces would be worth? Anyone know of other pieces that I could add? Thanks!

Hi everyone! I've recently aquired an antique wood-burning stove that is gorgeous! I'm having a hard time figuring out what it's worth is. It only says "parlor stove" across the back. It has solid brass accessories-- a ribb oned top that covers the stove, and two bars that run the length of the stove... one on the top and one along the bottom. I need to clean it up, but I think it might be pretty valuable. Anyone have a general price range of value??? Please E-Mail me!!!

I have an old oak ice chest made by the Herrick Company. There is a gold leaf logo on the front which is not all there. The logo says HERRICK across the top Herrick Company along a "ribbon" through the middle. Can't quite make out the "Herrick" in that part. And, Waterloo, Iowa is printed across the bottom. The chest is about 4 feet tall by 3 feet wide by 2 feet deep. It has two insulated doors and seems to have all of the shelves. There are baskets and a drawer lined with tin (for ice?) with a drain hole and a small tin funnel. Would like info on the Company and chest. How can I date the piece?

I'm researching the histories of several manufacturers of store scales from the first quarter of this century, including Angldile, Computing Scale Co. (Dayton), Stimpson, Detroit Automatic, Standard Computing, Toledo, and Micro meter (Dodge Scale Co.). I'm looking for catalogs of these companies, pre 1925, which I will either buy if you wish to sell, or will pay the cost of photocopying. I also collect such scales, and am looking especially for smaller models , eg candy scales up to about 5 pound capacity scales. Would like to find a 2-pound or a 5-pound Angldile, and a Stimpson or Detroit Automatic candy scale which has an oval base and a fan-shaped dial which is tilted away from the scoop.

This reply is for Carla and Chris: First off, let me thank you for commenting (good or bad)honestly about the site, it is the only way I know how people use the site, or want to use the site! This kind of knowlege is invaluable! Thank You! My intention with the specialty was to get as specific as possible about Specialties, not neccesarialy items for sale.. yes, this is just a guide, if you want more knowlege of a stores specialty, you probably will have to call them on the phone, as only about %15 of the shops have internet interactivity. My hope was to get shops with as specific as specialty as possible (such as "antique lightbulbs") but that is a ways of, but I intend to get there! As it is right now, it is really difficult to get shops to fess up to any specialty at all..."oh, we carry a general line of antiques"! I can promise you that noone is ever going to seriously search for the keyword "general line"!! best regards, and good antiqueing, Ed Elser-antique-shop.com

I too, hope you can use a more general type of search, as the one you use know is fairly useless to those of us looking for specific items :) Otherwise, the site looks good :) -Carla WTB: Always adding to my collection. Ceramic fruit wall pockets (prefer those on a leaf, but will consider others, including those with elves perched on the fruit or single pieces of fruit not on a leaf. Must be ceramic though, No chalkware). Also, fruit planters (usually a single piece of fruit sitting on a leaf tray), and fruit or veggie Cookie Jars (not a bunch of fruit....just in the shape of a singe piece of fruit or veggie). Chipped/repaired/damaged pieces considered if priced accordingly. If you would like a picture of what I am looking for, please mail :) Thanks :) -Carla

I found your site very frustrating because I am looking for a specific item (old/unusual light bulbs) and all I can search by is general "specialties." Yet the posting in rec.antiques by lizzi*at*ameritech.net implies there are some antiques to be seen -- do I have to visit every store to see what they have? Or is there an option for me to leave a want and your 1500 shops can peruse that list if they want and then respond? Thank you!

I recently found the location of your Website in the Houston Chronicle. My husband is a graduate of West Point, Class of 1968. Years ago we began to collect the Wedgewood china that has scenes of West Point. Although most of our pieces are in the blue Wedgewood, we also have dinner plates and luncheon plates in the red. This china is no longer being made for the Academy, and we are always on the lookout for pieces. We have no serving pieces, and are intereste d in those. Also, many years ago, the Academy had sterling flatware and silver serving pieces, that often times came out of the Mess Hall. Do you know of any dealers who might have any of these items? Thank you for any assistance that you might be able to give us. Sincerely, Betty Shaffer

I have three things that have been floating around my house (and family) for a while that no one seems to know where they came from or if they have any value or if we need to protect them. One small item that we just found is a $2.00 book of Eisenhower 6 cent stamps with one stamp inside and three six cent FDR postage stamps. Another item is an oil painting that is signed "Lyle-1895" - this was found in a family attic after a death and I would like to know more about its origin. Lastly is a gift from my grandmother. She found a serving bowl when they cleaned they old family homestead. It is white with yellow roses painted on and with a gold edge. On the back, it has "BAVARIA" stamped on it AND a symbol with a crown on the top , leaves on the side and a bow on the bottom. Below this "Bavaria" is stamped again and the number "7" under that. In the middle of the symbol is a "D" or "P" placed directly above a "M". Again, I am very interested in origin of this piece, value and a re there any special things that I should do to take care of it. If any one can help me, I'd appreciate it.

I've changed my ISP since I last listed here, so I thought it would be a good idea to repeat my requests with my new e-mail address. I'd like to find an art deco era mohair sofa, hopefully somewhere in the Chicago area. I'm a lso interested in silver overlay on glass, specifically bottles and jars, not plates. Last, can anyone tell me the best and (safest)way to clean mohair stuffed animals. I have a few older Steiff pieces that I'd like to spiff up a little. Thanks for the info. Rosalie

I found a beautiful 11- 1/4" glass plate that resembles delicate stained glass. It is tourquois, royal blue, gold and burgandy with 2 pheasants in the center. Around the rim are gold silouettes of more birds. There's no writing on the back at all, and I'm sure it is very old. It belonged to an elderly couple who passed away and sold their house with all it's contents. (Everything in the house was an antique!) Does anyone know where I can get information on this plate or is the re anyone at all that is familiar with it? I'd appreciate any information. A.Iano

I have a depression era photo of my father taken in a studio in Alton, Illinois. I want to reproduce the photo with my son as the subject. I am trying to find a BENCH similar to what he is sitting on. I can email a scanned pho to to anyone that may be able to help me. My best description of this bench/stool: it's about as wide as a piano bench. The seat is padded. The unusual feature of this bench are the ends which to me appear to be cast but could be wood. They are very ornat e, the top in the shape of a spade that extends above the padded seat and the seat is secured in the middle of these 'spades'. From just under the bench to the feet are four support arms in the shape of lightning bolts. In the middle of the lightning bol ts is a star. Thanx in advance!

I have a ceramic dish that belonged to my mother but I only have certain information written on a sheet of paper and I would like more information and if anyone might know the value of this piece. I am considering selling this . This is a round ceramic dish that is about 2 1/2 inches deep. On the sheet of paper it states: La Seynie, Saint Yriecx, Sceaux France (1748-1794. Script 1774-1794. Plus Giesshubel, Germany 1850 Carsbad, Germany 1803. It is white with light blue on ly in places like a sky effect with gold script and cameo picture of what looks to be regal or important woman. A quarter of the dish has been broken in the past but can fit perfectly to be repaired but I do not want to do this since I do not know exactl y how. I would appreciate any help that anyone can give me about this. Thank You Very Much!! Robin
