Title: Circa 1816 portable Scale for Gold and Silver
Post by: xStampede on May 02, 2013, 02:42:08 pm
Im unsure about the value for this type of scales, produced by Stamperia Reale di Torino(Royal Printing Torino). It has a price list of gold and silver for Italian regions and cities(Piedmont, Genoa,  Milan, Venice, Florence, Rome and Tuscany)  and some foreign countries(Spain, France and Portugal).

My aunt recieved it from a Torino banker as wedding present long ago.

The weights are made of brass.

Anyone have any idea about the estimated value?

I would say a few hundred pounds, based on age, scarcity and amount of weights. However, it's possible the Stamperia Reale di Torino published the price list, not produced the scales.

Can you read the inscriptions on the top of the list ?

Very nice indeed.

Here is the picture of top left where with the name of owner, Felice was his name, can't read the surname thou...

The weights are for gold coins, the measures on them are for golden coins of that age, for example Luigi is Louis d'or french gold coin, appereantly that was the measure for gold they used back then. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louis_d%27or (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louis_d%27or)

What do you think is written there?

Those are different type, this one is same type of scale as this Gold Coin scale from 1600s http://www.tripadvisor.com/LocationPhotoDirectLink-g187337-d243323-i22722601-Money_Museum_Geldmuseum_der_Deutschen_Bundesbank-Frankfurt_Hesse.html (http://www.tripadvisor.com/LocationPhotoDirectLink-g187337-d243323-i22722601-Money_Museum_Geldmuseum_der_Deutschen_Bundesbank-Frankfurt_Hesse.html)
