A Berkey and Gay bed and a H.Herrmann dresser came into our possession the other day. We're not looking to keep them, and are wondering how much they might be worth. From what I understand, Berkey and Gay went out of business and their furniture has some value to it. http://www.furniturecityhistory.org/company/3391/berkey-and-gay-furniture-co
I can't find much information on H.Herrmann, but below are pictures of both pieces.
Anyone have an idea about what these might be worth?

Sorry, mart. I'm trying to figure out why it won't let me post the pictures straight into my post. I'll try to post the pictures another way as soon as I can. Thanks for the history link.

Mart, these links go to individual pictures instead of an album. That might help you load them better. I keep getting an error when I try to have them show directly on the forum.

Your pics are probably too large for this site !! I will try the other links !!
-
Make your pictures smaller and upload less to a page. Check for resize photos, crop more and do one at a tim3.

Thanks greenacres, I'll do that now!
In searching ebay, I see other Berkey and Gay furniture between 400 and 1000, but these are only postings, and not items sold. I haven't seen any sold recently, so I'm guessing that means it might be valued less? I also saw a slightly fancier pair of twin beds from Berkey and Gay for $1,450, but again that's just the price the seller listed at... no one actually bought it at that price.
As for the H Herrmann (I'm finding that sometimes I have to search H Hermann instead), there's a recent ebay listing for $1075, but again no one actually bought it... it was just listed at that price.
If we're trying to sell to an antique shop, how do we make sure we're getting somewhat of a fair value? I know they obviously need ot make their money too, but we don't want to get ripped off either.

Your dresser is Ferderal/Sheraton revival style and was likely made around the turn of the century 1890 to 1910 or so !! Value depends on condition and originality which looks good from what I can see !! Only looked at the first pic !! Am wondering about the green color if my computer is showing it properly !! Can you see anywhere that this looks to be a re-modeled piece ??

Seen similar B and G beds go for $100-200
Be surprised if you could get more for the dresser, too

What's a good ball park on these for the US?

You didn`t answer the question about the color,,does it look like it has been re-done ?? Is the bed full size or smaller ??

This one to me has been ruined.

We don't think the color was re-done. I was told that the couple who owned the furniture didn't modify any of it. I can take close-up shots of the coloring if that would help!
The bed is smaller - twin size.

Here are some close-ups of the paint on the dresser.

To me, the green trim looks like the 'antique' refinishing done in the 70's.

You think they're worth more ?
-
I just got confirmation that the dresser has indeed been painted. Bummer!
-
It may be a bummer to you,...but there are people out there that like that sort of thing....Like our Wendy for instance..and ..just because its been painted does,nt make it worthless,.....personally speaking...from what i,ve seen advertised elsewhere...its over priced...just be thankful you are in the US where prices appear to be at the higher end of the scale....because over here in the UK...i could,nt see this for much,..as for the bed..we call that a 3/4 size bed...which..fetch very little here..and by little i mean...around £30..or ..$50....
-
Been a bit busy today !! Would have bet the same thing Dogaman !! One last thing please,,can you take a pic of the dovetails on the side of the drawer ?? I am not totally sure that this isn`t a later repro !! If the castors on the bed are original,, it sure is !! Of course its possible they were replaced for some reason !! Many quality furniture mfrs made reproductions of early furniture styles from 1940 on !! Good thing about the dresser is it looks rather good like that even if not original !!
-
We have a big auction to go to next Saturday,..lots of 40,s/50,s heavy furniture,..i.e. oak dining tables etc...can almost guarantee my firewood shed will be full by Sunday...and my wallet won,t have taken a beating...last sale we were at i got 3 x oak tables with chunky legs and 16 chairs for £15 +20% commission.....and seasoned oak is the best....for burning.... ;D

You must have an awfully big fireplace!

I think they would do a little better here !! Bed might be a tough sell because of its small size !!
