Is everyone iced in ??
-
Not iced, but definitely way too cold to go to the flea markets. Will try tomorrow as the temp is supposed to be over 65. Then we're headed into the basement...low Tuesday is supposed to be 19. When days like that happen, I swear they've moved Florida north of the Mason-Dixon line. LOL.
-
maybe they,re all Blootered!!..... ;D ;D ;D...you may have to google that,....try urban dictionary....

It could be worse...you could be living here! :o
Sunday
Patchy blowing snow after noon. Partly sunny and cold, with a high near -15. Wind chill values as low as -51. Blustery, with a northwest wind 9 to 14 mph increasing to 19 to 24 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 33 mph.

We are supposed to get in the teens tues !! Now although windy the temp is 63 and sunshine !! I just hope no rain if it gets that cold !! I will slip n`slide all over this place !! Good thing about Texas is the cold, cold weather only lasts a few days !!
-
Thanks Rauville! You made me happy with my one degree F this morning and 8 inches of blowing snow. I think I will put out the recliner on the beach and grab some sun and a cold beer. I just hope my lips don't stick to the can.
-
Yep Mart, hard to believe that the high for Monday is 33....HERE IN TEXAS!!! Low is 16!

You know the nearer your destination, the more you slip sliding away....

if it was global warming...some of you would,nt be up to your eyeballs in snow, instead you,d be heading for the beach like Kermit.... ;)

I don`t like ice for the same reason I don`t break my own horses anymore !! I don`t bounce like I used to !! :D

you mean to say you were once bigger than an 8......
-
No,,, actually smaller,,but younger and healed faster !!
-
smaller than an 8...god you must,ve been tiny....Avril,s a 20 ..and she,s only 4ft 11....
-
I wore a size 3 till (yuk) middle age !! Not quite an 8 yet !! Different clothes fit differently !!
-
I hate ice!
-
I know we got pounded with cold and snow! Wind chill down to -40 degrees F. Got stuck in my driveway. I hate winter!! Today 20 degrees felt warm.
-
Was out shovelling six times yesterday, plus had the dog out four times……….don't think I'll ever get warm again :-[
-
Don`t think I will complain anymore after seeing that Sapphire !! Cuddle up and thaw out,, a hot toddy works wonders !!
-
Sapphire it's time to take a long hot bath with a glass of something good. That's what I'm going to do. The chill just gets in your bones. Minute you shovel the drift puts it right back on. Annoying!
-
No offense, everyone, but I'd take the heat and humidity over that white cold stuff anytime! These bones are too old to handle the frigid temps and wind chills, anymore.
Kick back, warm up, and dream of spring!

No offense taken at all. We all just struggle through winter always dreaming of spring! ;D
-
Ice,
I spent a year in Idaho and could not stand another winter there. The winter is when you hibernate and do indoor hobbies such as cross stitching (my profile pic is one I did recently).

Should have taken pics at work today of the inside of our garden centre……might as well have been outside with the snow that managed to get in. Out shovelling and sanding three times there and no heat in our work/loading area. Just a treat when the bay door is open…….NOT. Came home, dropped my bags and picked up the leash for another go 'round the yard. Even the dufus has enough sense (most times) to 'do it' and get back in. Supper tonight……passed up on the turkey and veggies, even the lasagna (all which I would only have to heat up) and went for French toast made with homemade raisin bread, drowned in NS maple syrup………absolutely one of the best things to make you forget how miserable it is outside :D
-
French toast, raisin bread...and syrup---comfort foods!

Ya'll better enjoy today because .............
'Polar vortex' set to bring dangerous, record-breaking cold to much of US
As much of the country digs out from a powerful winter storm that buried parts of the Northeast, tundra-like temperatures are poised to deliver a rare and potentially dangerous blow to the Midwest, with forecasters predicting a near-record or historic cold outbreak.
The "polar vortex," as one meteorologist calls it, is expected to send cold air piled up at the North Pole down to the U.S., funneling it as far south as the Gulf Coast and driving temperatures below freezing for most of the nation.

Well, you can sprinkle a few chocolate chips on the peanut butter before you put them together !! Makes it taste like a Reeses Peanut Butter cup !!

How about a good Texas chili recipe? That will make your tummy warm. :)
A good Texas Chili is made by taste not a recipe !! I put half ground beef, half chili grind beef and about a half a lb or so of a mild country sausage, one large diced onion, and a couple of cloves minced garlic,,brown all together in heavy dutch oven. When meat is done add one large can of either crushed tomatoes ( I use home canned) and one regular can of tomatoe sauce or juice !! Put on low heat and add salt, pepper, cayenne pepper, chili powder and cumin to taste and let all simmer together at least an hour or more !! You can start with a couple of TBSPs chili powder and cumin but taste it after it simmers a while then add more if you want !! You can add additional tomato juice if you like it thinner but add a tiny bit of salt with the juice. I like it pretty spicy but you can season as you like it !! NO BEANS in Texas chili !! But I guess you can add them if you want !! I would get run out of Texas if I put beans in Texas Red !! Serve with fried cornbread and extra tabasco sauce !!
-
Pretty much how I make mine too Mart!
-
and Extra Tabasco sauce....sounds like a great recipe for strapping a toilet pan tae yer arse for a week......I used to like Vindaloo,s and Ceylons....but...no t now....they,re far too nippy on the rear end....although having said that..it was nothing a spoonful of sugar ..could,nt put right.... ;D
-
I wanted to see if you made it differently in Texas. I like spicy too. I add the beans. BigWull just try some Beano!
-
I usually make a good size batch when I make chili and extra is put in containers and into the freezer !! Its just as easy to make a big pot full as it is a little one !!
-

Well you know what they say " Beans they're good for your heart"! I haven't seen them in my market. City people are constantly on their mobile devices. I don't know if comics are big here.

Quick question BigWull, my husband and friend were discussing Jethro Tull and the salmon business that he started in Scotland. They were saying he employees a lot of people, and is very successful. Are you aware of the company?
-
Ian Anderson the the lead ..of Jethro Tull,..did have Salmon Farms on the Isle of Skye,...which he ran successfully for many years....and he employed all local people,...he eventually sold the business and now lives on a 400 acre estate, in Wiltshire.....
-
Is he originally from England?
-
Yep he's a Scottish fella' alright!
-
Is he originally from England?
England....God forbid....he,s a Fifer ...fae Dunfermline...which my Dear G,acre is as Scottish as you could get.... ;D
-
Yep he's a Scottish ;D fella' alright!
...and as for you....you crease me up.. ;D ;D..the Philly chick says..."is he originally from England"...and Youuuuuuu!!..Yep he,s a Scottish fella alright!.....This is right up there with the Best ..."Chalk & Cheese ever..... ;D...North of Hadrians are Gods People....South of Hadrians....they,re someting else....
-
I'm something else is right! ;D
-
So ... is he still making the employees wear aqualungs ?
-
I'm something else is right! ;D
I,m not talking about..you....ya (word deleted by moderator),you,re no South of Hadrians Wall,..you,re West of it....its them Anglo-Saxons i,m on about.... ;D
-

I've seen him in concert twice. The last time had been after he had his stroke. Ian Anderson that is. This is the music we listen to in high school. Of course my husband is still a big fan.

I saw Tull, in the 70,s,and have many of their albums,..one of my favourite albums is this....along with Stand Up, Thick as a Brick, Living in the Past, Aqualung,..Heavy Horses...and more....Tull however would be lost on Mart.... ;D..does Mr G,acre like these guys...KC....no not that one this one.... ;D.
-
Looks like the cold snap in the U.S. is still happening ....
-
Brrrr...one of our cats finally warmed up enough to stretch out. :D
-
Watch your language folks. This board is not the place for obscenities.
-
Bigwull.... words. Choose them wisely.
The first concert I ever saw was Tull. 198..4? University of Chicago.
-
I saw Tull in the 80s too, but that's beside the point. You don't speak to a lady that way and you don't post it on a forum. Ever.
-
I think something went over my head? ??? My husband said "Benefit" is a great album.
-
...what is seen as tongue in cheek where i come from....is obviously not seen to be here.....such a pity.......furtherm ore,..the reference to the pic in question was not targeted at G,acre,.or anyone for that matter,.it was how i and many others i know..perceive this album cover,...but...if this is the kind of thing that offends you....then..i think ..maybe i,ve overstayed my welcome.... :(
-
Bigwull, It's a big world out here. We don't know all of each others euphamisims. (beano? it's something you take to prevent farting).
Plus, as you can tell by now (you are a veteran here) this is a genteel forum! No money going on (I still get my ~100$ month from the couple of ad's that flow by) It's just for "us". "Us" Being you, me, and the 100 other people that have +100 posts under their belt that have gone out of their way to answer questions, and the people that ask those questions.
I'm in a spot, because I'm sort of entertained by your regional humor... But there are people here that are not. So what am I supposed to do?
So, help me please. I dont even know how you will do it. You seem creative enough to pull it off.
And on to another subject for all the people that frequent here. I need to update the forum, but you all have made the database so big with pictures and whatnot, that I'm having a hard time! :).. Anyway, look for a new look and color scheme to the forum this spring. If anyone wants to put their two cents in to any improvement ideas, feel free to let me know!
BTW, this is the 18th year of this forum! can you believe it??
Thanks for participating in the internets best antiques forum! (you know its true!) It's awesome to read your posts.

Well,, since I missed what was said,,I will say that Bigwull would never use a derogatory term for any woman here intentionally !! I have known him to correct others whose language was not appropriate !! I have found it necessary to read some of his posts a few times to get exactly what was intended !! Perhaps that is what happened here !!
I think most of us do realize that some terms are accepted as part of normal conversation in other parts of the world that are not seen that way here !! Sounded to me like he was referring to that darn music he likes which has some strange cover names !! Jmo !! Now back to business !!
I do have one request please Ed,, can we post size requirements for pics on a separate sticky thread !! Some of the people posting don`t take time to resize and correct the pics so we can a good enough view to give an answer to their questions. They think bigger is better but it isn`t for all of us !! I am not the only person here with dial up !! Just simple instructions would help !! Not many read what is currently there !!
-
Database size could be reduced by the hot linking of images being more accepted than it is - many people will have the images on a website already and choose to hot link them, whereas they are continually greeted with requests to upload them on this website.
Otherwise great fun ! ;D
Tales - i've been stalled in my research of your ancestors due to the person i need to see at Osberton Hall being away at present. And the weather in the UK is ridiculous, as it has been in the north over there.
My sister keeps facebooking me images of the Bahamas which doesn't help >:( ;D
-
No worries Ipcress! Thanks for the update and as always the help is appreciated.
