It has been brought to my attention...that i used what was reported as a vulgar, and derogatory word against G,acre,...had the person who reported this, read the preamble beforehand..they would, or should have realised that my useage of this word was not meant as a vulgar remark...i,ve just googled ..this word..and yes..i saw its inital meaning...and..can honestly say...my first reaction was .."shit"..now i know what they are on about...but ...where i am ..its useage is common when fronted by silly, t**t....and if you google silly t**t...it brings up an entirely different meaning...and this is what i meant..I never for one millisecond thought that i was being vulgar...and for those on here who really know me..will have realised that i meant no harm...as for the others...well they saw what they saw...and put 2+2 together...and in this instance got 5....
-
I knew !!
-
I didn't see the original post but the word is derogatory however it's used, either in friendly banter or not.
However, it's the use of punctuation that annoys me :P
If i had a dollar for every !! or ..... i saw on here,i'd buy Edward Hopper's New York Movie.

Awww come on Ipcress !! I have done that for so many years that if I stopped,,,they would send the coroner to my house !! ;D

I do believe if some of us laid off those 'extra' keys no one would believe it was really us posting. I find it puts a bit more personality and life into the words being read. Not to mention it's a lifelong habit that to stop would have me forever deleting and losing track of what I was saying.
Not having seen the original posts, only catching up along the way, I must add that I actually had to google to find where the offence was taken. Quite honestly, I grew up with a proper, Victorian mother and a rather reserved father………yet 'that' word and others that some may find off-putting……did not raise the same response that they would in other areas of the continent. Were I a Newf or a Caper, rather than a Bluenoser, I'm sure my vocabulary would be even more colourful……..and quite likely, highly censored or completely misunderstood.
-
ok I missed it what was the word?
-
I guess I annoy you Ipcress with all my punctuation marks!!! LOL
I didn't see the post in question either!!!!!!!!!! (Sorry Ipcress...couldn't resist!) But totally agree WE ALL have to be mindful because this is a great site full of great people! (Wow, that killed me not putting a bunch of exclamation marks.)
I was raised with punctuation marks to emphasize (old school) and was further ingrained with that by texting to/from my kids and all their friends, etc.
I will work on it! (see, one exclamation mark and no pondering/trailing off dots.)
-
I love you all the you are. That's what makes things interesting.

Me too Sapphire !! Evidently that word never made it to Texas !! Of course they have invented a lot of new ones recently !! Don`t know those either !! Just know the ones from my generation !!

I was raised with punctuation marks to emphasize (old school) Yup, same here
and was further ingrained with that by texting to/from my kids and all their friends, etc. This elicited a knowing chuckle ;) You did WHAT __________<<<<<(insert appropriate/autoresponse/favourite symbol/s here)
-
I was raised with very proper use of punctuation. I have to admit when I saw all the !!!! on here I was baffled by it. I thought people were yelling at me at first. lol To each his own. haha

Given this is an Antique Questions Forum it only seems sensible that one should be using vintage and antique verbiage (pre-1980).
If someone starts pushing that damnable PC crapolla then we will hafta start talking in hieroglyphics or sign language so that poor little Johnnie or Jennie's feelings won't be hurt causing them to be non-achieving handicapped individuals for the rest of their lives living off of their monthly government assistant checks.

Its not often that i,m left speechless Cogar........but... .Mmm.........!! ;)

you leave my dots alone.....they are sensitive dots........... :D

Classic example of lemons to lemonade by the forum group !! ;D
-
I did not see it and can only guess what the word was. If the W was followed by an I, Monty Python used it often but it still can mean something vulgar according to the Urban Dictionary. If the W was followed by an A there is only one meaning on this side of the pond which is not that much better than the C word. Does that make sense?
As for the use of the exclamation mark, it should be reserved for exclaiming which is a sudden ejaculation of words like Holy Moly! or Oh Sh-t! It may also be used in a phrase of panic or excitement like "Get off of there before you fall you idiot!" As a writer, I had a terrible habit of using it too much and it was hard to break. If it is used to much it becomes meaningless when it is really needed.
-
But without my own personal quirks,,I would be so boring !! Not fun !!

Compassion and acceptance are always something to keep in mind. I have had some extreme challenges in life its been a very hard life but it taught me never to judge because until you walk in another persons shoes you don't know who they are. I'm not into the pc thing but don't lose sight that we are all someone's child, parent, sibling...

You should develop Mart Code. Just a combination of !! and spaces ;D ;)
-

Perhaps you need to visit Texas and listen to us a while,,then you would understand !! ;D You would be the only person in the UK with a Texas drawl !! Its quite colorful when you get a few of us together !!
We are not strange at all compared to south Louisiana !! That's like another country !! The French can`t even understand Cajun French, then mix it with the typical Southern language and its something rather unusual !!

Dangit...that was a poor example. This is similar to the one I learned to type on. ::)

To make an exclamation mark, it was a two-key process.
-
I remember those...gosh, that's dating myself. :D You had to do a "period", backspace, and then "Shift" and "8" key. Of course, that was back when you HAD to be a good typist as well. No such things as White-out, just pencil shaped erasers. And you didn't use those unless you absolutely had to, as they left smudges. Made a mistake? Start over. Pure and simple.
And those things weren't easy on the fingers, either. You had to be pretty heavy-handed to get the keys to depress with enough pressure to give a clear imprint on the paper. You could always tell those of us who learned on manual type writers from those who learned on electric.
-
Didn`t make any difference what they used,, even though I took typing in HS and another class after I got out of HS I could not learn to type !! Teachers just pulled their hair out !! I can not make one hand work independently of the other,,at least not on a keyboard !! Where one goes the other follows !! Only "fix" is to only use one hand at a time !! Weird !!

colourful when a few of you are together....Ha..... you can say that again.........you lot are like Scotsman...you could start a barney in an empty hoose....there,s nothing a Texan likes more...than drinking and bullshitting....tru st me i know....and as for them Frenchies....they,re like A/S,s....they,re something else.....and ..that gumbo of theirs....well suffice to say...i hate gumbo.....i did,nt mind it when it was dead...but there were times when it was,nt.... ;D!!!
-
Never came across any live gumbo but the dead stuff is good !! Did you try the boudain ?? Also excellent if well made !! Non of that grocery store stuff though !!
-
That funny I just saw "Duck Dynasty" and they had a boudain truck. I looked up a recipe to see what was in it. Not something I'll be making soon.
-
It has pork roast, chicken liver, rice, hot pepper and green onion along with the Cajun spices !! I make it occasionally !! It is usually breaded with cornmeal/cayenne combination and fried til brown !! Really is good !! You can`t taste the chicken liver !! Just really tastes like a pork cutlet with a kick !!
-
YUCK! :o I'm a vegetarian, it doesn't sound like food to me. ;D
-
if you,re a vegan ..veggie....then i can understand that.....but if yer not.....then ....i,m afeerd.....yer something else..... ;D..
-
never had that kind of boudain....did have some of these.....which were jist like....spicy pork sassages.....
-
Mart, I give you credit. I never cased a sausage in my life. My husband isn't crazy about meat either icegold. I used to think I was a bad cook, but he never liked it.
-
That sausage is wonderful in "Dirty Rice"!!! If you want to hear a decent Cajun accent just search for New Orleans Cajun Justin Wilson recipes on you-tube.
Mart, Bet they haven't had a Cajun TurDuckin Or a Cherpumple Pie cake!
-
Seeing as how my late father came from the Ukraine,i was brought up with food that he had in his homeland,..everything was home made,..he made pirogies,...borscht,...jellied pigs head,..black rye bread, cabbage soup,...chicken noodle soup, at the start of every year,he and some friends would buy a couple of piglets, ....feed them up for a year, then butcher them...smoke and cure the meat, then make cured pork rings, we,d have cured spek.......not to be confused with ..the urban dictionaries....Mex ican Midgit....ya see i,m learning.... ;D
-
I learned how to make Russian Pelmeni after coming to love it on our many trips. Drove me crazy they would boil the stuffed dumpling in chicken broth with carrot/celery/potato THEN POUR OUT/THROW AWAY all but the dumpling and serve it with some butter. When I would ask them why, each person would say that they (carrot/celery/potato/broth) weren't good for you (bad bulk, bad due to radiation, etc.) We would just crack up...you could boil the essence out of it but throw the rest away and it's ok?!?! So, I make a Pelmeni soup (keeping it all) that everyone goes nuts over that I serve it to!!!
-
I can understand their fears, when i was in Zhovantsi...in Ukraine, where my Aunt & Uncle stay..this area.was hit hard by the Chernobyl fallout,....and all over the region there are big mounds of contaminated soil,...after the reactor went bang, the government sent leaflets to the population telling them..to scrape 5cm of soil from the ground as this would get rid of the contaminated soil....but what they did,nt tell them was...where to put all this contaminated soil...hence the big mounds of earth,, that get washed everytime it rains and all that contamination gets washed back into the ground...subsequent ly, everything they eat has to be double cooked,....
-
Boudain is hardly ever cased by home cooks !! Its usually made into balls or patties and rolled in southern star fish fry mix and fried !!
-
Mart I haven't found Southern Star in a long time!!!! They don't carry it around here anymore. Forgot about it. Need to look next time I am near your neck of the woods or Louisiana or is it only available by order now?
Wullie, I totally understand the concern. Got hold of a geiger counter on 2nd long trip to Siberia (Unable to leave for 6 weeks due to Russian Constitutional Crisis/Bombing Oct '93) and everything had readings!!! Water was flowing north From Kazakhstan (water was radioactive); wooden floors and rock/plaster walls had readings that our military would put on protective wear. But...to think you could only use the good out of carrots/potatoes/celery/onions and throw away the bad???!!!! Survival instincts I am sure.
-
Last few times we were there couldn`t find it anymore,,never had it here !! Not sure what happened !! Now I just make a repro !! Might have to check and see if it can be ordered !!
