My husband brought this home today. No one was sure of what is was. It hung on the wall in a basement. My husband thought it was for soap. The stuff inside looked like pepper. The second picture is where there was a handle that turned. The glass is removable.

These double posts kill me. Sorry
-
On the top glass part it says"Crystals No.3". The name is Arcade.

All you need is a crank and some coffee beans!

Yep !! And call us when its done,,, cinnamon rolls would go great with fresh brewed coffee !! ;D
-
Neat! It needs a good cleaning and that's a understatement. ;D Where can I replace the handle?
-
I would look on ebay !!
-
Thank you both!

It is unusual to find them with the catch cup intact. They are quite collectable. You shouldn't have too much trouble locating parts.
-
Strip that paint off of it and a sausage grinder handle might fit it, and probably will if it is an Arcade sausage grinder.

Thanks so much everyone. Great idea cogar. I just sat down for the evening and I'm on the hunt, lol. I want to take it apart to get the old paint off and clean it. Or, should I not take it apart to do the work?
-
You will have to take it apart to do a good job. Just don't lose any parts ..... and don't be "prying" on it. ..... cast iron will break easy if "stressed". "Bumping" and "tapping" and lightly prying is OK, ..... but no forceful prying. (ps: the paint will probably have "glued" the sides together in places so use a utility knife to cut it)
If you have a "digital" ...... take pictures as you take it apart ..... unless you are a good "mechanicer" ;D .......... then no need for the pictures.
-
Thank you cogar. I was just looking for a handle. This not going to be as easy as I thought.

My glass jar says Pegus pat. Off. Does this make this around 1900's?

This might help: http://www.coffeehouseinc.com/history.htm (http://www.coffeehouseinc.com/history.htm)

I just looked up close at the catch cup, it does not look original. Looks like a later drinking glass that replaced the broken catch cup

Read the replacement parts down on this page !! Others have parts too !!
-
Thank you Tales. There was a No.1 coffee grinder and a No.2, lol. Duh No.3 ;D I saw one with a patent. They wanted ridiculous price, but his date was June 22, 1903.

Got a handle and some extra parts. I didn't do badly. There are no handles alone.
-
That's not a bad price at all !!
-
Not bad at all!

Most were $40. or more. I lost one before this purchase.
