Title: Help ID this stand

Just hoping someone can tell me what this stand is. Its adjustable and has an iron base under the metal. Its marked 'McKenna Bros Pittsburg' and the number 8. Thanks in advance!

Can you raise the top part with the small hook and move the protruding part separately ??  It looks like a stand to hang a dress with a bustle !!  This company made all types of items,, brass lamps, clothing stands ect !!

The part with the 'u' slides up and down the main pole, which adjusts also.  The 'u' part is longer on one end than the other.

I don`t think the length of that U part is critical but let me get Talesofthesevenseas and a few others to look at it !! But that's exactly what it looks like to me !! The bustle was at the rear and the dress hanger would be on the hook and would cover the entire stand !! The U part would be at the hip/buttocks !! That would let the ladies see what it would look like when worn !! May be way off here but that's my best guess !!

The McKenna Brothers Brass Company in Pittsburg opened a display showroom in 1903 and specialized in window display stands/fixtures, plumbing/faucets, brass cuspidors and railings, etc.

I see that they held a patent on a unique brass clothing/coat rack...but can't find a picture of it.  Wonder if this is it?

Don`t think this is it !! I saw one of theirs that had a circular form that may be the one you are talking about !!

I could visualize the stand for cloth / yardage display.

I don't think it's designed to fill out a bustle. The only thing that will fill out a bustle dress is a bustled mannequin or person. Bustles are designed to collapse when sitting and for storage like an accordion, so I don't think that's what this is. I lean toward's Rauville's suggestion that it could be a quilt rack, or possibly a bathroom towel rack.

Okay...see it written that they had a stand that had an arched top that would help maintain the weight for someone who played the accordion and like instruments in the 1960's!!!!!!! Called a "supporting device for accordian" Would have to see it!  :)

You can't put anything very heavy on that circular bar.

If you do it will topple onto the flool "ker-bang" like.

The u part screws onto the end of the little post so it would turn if you would sit anything on it.

But fabric comes on a bolt from 36 to 54 inches usually !! It just doesn`t seem logical to me !!

I have to assume the hook on the top of the center post is to hang something on which would act as the counter-balance for whatever was draped over the bow rod.

Like hang a bolt of fabric on the hook and drape the fabric over the bow.

Are the ends of the arc/bow finished or open tubing?
