Title: Chinese Needle Case Old Or New?

Hi,
A friend just brought this back from China.  She bought it at an antique store and was told it was an old needle case for stitchers.  Does anyone know if this is indeed old or new to look old?

The case part measures about 1 3/4" tall.

I wouldn't have thought this was antique. Work / design doesn't look right and is similar to many items made for the tourist / auction market. Lots of this type of item being made in Macau, Hong Kong and South East Asia and sold locally to tourists or shipped off to Europe and the US. They can produce them very cheaply but make them appear quite attractive and well made.
