Title: Wooden Sculpture identification please if you can
Post by: Dunesfield on October 21, 2015, 09:21:45 pm
We acquired this sculpture at an estate auction. We have no idea what it is or even what it depicts. We have contacted numerous people and have had no answers as of yet. If any one has any info, your help would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks! Dunes

the material looks to be cinnabar, which is a type of stone commonly used for carving in the orient. may be worth testing with a hot pin to see if its resin though. sorry that's about all the help i could give!

hello i think it may be cinnabar or bali too but not fully certain. they still use the stone today to carve out ornamental sculptures. i think its just a modern decoration piece since it doesnt have any markings on it at all. if it was old it wouldnt have a shine too it which they used in modern day to polish scultures. its still a neat decoration piece!

Agree that it's modern, could be Bali or the Philippines. Probably a sculpture for the tourist trade.
