would like to know the artist off this old painting . So who is able to read the name for me ? And maybe some paintings to find from this artist ? thanks :)
-
Can we see the back of the canvas ??
-
Those extremely steep mountains makes me think of China topography.
The types of boats on the water is an origin "signature" also.
-
Could be the Alps, too. The boats do not look very Chinese to me. Is there a steamboat in the background?
-
If that's a steamboat "smoking" in the background, ...... then
How about a Norwegian Fjord? Like so.

Yes, that sounds convincing!
-
Gerspee is in the Netherlands so that would be more likely than China !!
-
There's a good chance this is by Ove Julius Larsen, a Danish artist who painted on canvas but was also an artist at the famous Bing & Grondahl.
-
Mmm,, I think you are right Ipcress !! I had no clue !!
-
You should contact Auktionshaus Von Zengen at info@zengen.de
They sold one just a couple of months ago.
-
Will contact them and maybe it is :) Thanks update; I looked at the sold painting as mentioned and downloaded the picture and the name looks in shape ( not easy to get it bigger with detail) the same so it must be by him as it looks . So me a lot happyer now ;D
-
I'm very confident it's the same artist - the signature is the same, brush strokes and subject matter are similar.
-
Thanks ;D
-
Now that was some fine “teamwork” in sleuthing out the “landscape” location and name of the artist.
Cheers to all for a task well done.
