Title: is it really emerald?
Post by: hbkm on June 09, 2010, 02:40:48 am
A few years ago I was given a charm by my grandparents. i know that it is at least 46 years old now.

I have been told that it is a Gold Talon - carat unknown - holding an emerald. But this information i was told a while ago, and as i am only 16 now, i was very young at the time. and because it was a family friend telling me this i am slightly wary of their knowledge, and as i have grown up i have started to think that is it more like glass.

I was wondering if someone would be able to identify it for me. I have included an image, to help, but i understand that this probably will not be of much assistance as the quality of the picture is not brilliant.

any other details would be very much appreciated  :D

A trip to a local jeweler would be the quickest means to find out exactly what you've got there , in my opinion , hbkm .
It might be best to bring along an adult , since some jewelers prefer this (unless you're buying something) .

I'm thinking yours is lead crystal (also know as 'AB Crystal') .

Below are a couple of vintage AB crystal items , with prices from $85 to $45 British Pounds .
