Title: Hollohaza porcelain violin by the Hungarian artist Szász Endre - is it rare?
Post by: zack14smithy on September 17, 2010, 02:03:05 pm
I was looking for some Herend porcelain, when I stumbled on this Hollohaza porcelain violin by the famous Hungarian artist Szász Endre:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220670675551&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220670675551&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT)

It is gorgeous, and I am seriously considering buying it.

What I want to know, is Hollohaza porcelain as good at holding it’s value as Herend porcelain?

Also, there is some history in the listing, but does anyone know if this is really as rare as it seems to be?

May I suggest you look at the sellers other items for sale and their descriptions.  If they know what an item is....they know how to research it and know it's true value and would add that to a description to bring in more $$$$.  This person has sold quite a few items.  Their other items have rare used quite often (very rare, super rare, etc) and their items are all over the place.  Sometimes that is good, sometimes that is bad.

They don't present any information/proof as to the verification of the item.

Buyer be cautious!

More info, this one showing one of his violins.....

Another violin listing from the same site as above, but the asking price on this is $2,674 US (again, no info).......

Both these listings are from Hungary.

Here is another, again from Hungary....

Personally, if the seller cannot positively authenticate this piece I would be very cautious.

I agree with KC, caveat emptor.  Saying something is rare, very rare, or super rare does not make it so.  Those are words meant to make one think an item is more desirable and worth more $$$.  Rare should be used rarely.  ;D

if you like it - buy it . that is the rule.
Its going to be cheap, its a modern collectable with no age to it & a low collector base. Theres already 1000 out there, its not rare, the collectors will already have it.
This is one to buy at the right price ( which on ebay at this time you will ) to keep & enjoy & who knows this could be a future high flyer, worse case scenario you will always get your money back
