Title: Antique Counting Device
Post by: weirdoldstuff on October 23, 2011, 01:12:12 am
Hey everyone, this looks like a great forum!

I was wondering if anyone has seen anything like this before, & is it worth anything?

Some type of counting device, you put a pencil (or something) in the hole and push down, it 'dings' and the counter goes up by 1.

From the looks of it, I would guess 1920 - 1950 ish?

And from the writing on the sticker underneath, German or Swiss?

That might have been made for use as a store or shop "bell" ..... and would have been placed on the door or door frame ....... and whenever the door opened or closed it woulld "ding" the bell.

Could you post a clear picture of the sticker?

All I think is someone at a counter, hitting it and saying...Next!
Having a hard time finding one on line though!

Reminds me of some that I saw that were counters for people attending an event (like what turnstyles do these days!)

However, if it has to have something inserted into it....reminds me of counters/logins for security guards to note when they passed by on a particular beat.  They had to log the time by hand and the counter helped reinforce the number of rounds!
