Antique Questions Forum / Brass & Iron Floor Lamp Artistic Lamps NYC
« on: January 25, 2012, 11:55:50 am »
I found a few pairs of ceramic table lamps made by Artistic Lamps NYC but I haven't been able to find any floor lamps or anything about the company itself. I was wondering if anyone had any info on this maker. The lamp measures 61" tall not including the glass which I think isn't original to this lamp. Its made mostly of iron but they used brass to cover the pole and some other decorative parts. The lamp doesn't take a standard lightbulb the socket is really big and it says its rated for 250V. Was this lamp converted to electric? On the bottom in raised letters is ARTISTIC LA     NYC PAT. APPL. FOR.

Antique Questions Forum / Lucite Lamp
« on: January 23, 2012, 03:54:58 pm »
I have a few questions about my lucite lamp. It measures 31" tall and the round part is 13.5" wide and is between 2" to 3" thick. It is marked Primo on the base but I haven't been able to find anything. I was wondering if anyone had a rough idea of how old this is? Also I was wondering what would be a reasonable asking price for a lamp like this?

Antique Questions Forum / Andre Renault Paintings
« on: January 20, 2012, 07:14:28 pm »
I believe these streetscapes are oil on canvas/board. It looks like they were painted with a putty knife. Only one of them is signed by the artist Andre Renault. The signed painting is of the Moulin Rouge in Paris. Both paintings measure 20"x16" and are framed the same. I couldn't find much on the artist just a few past auction results on similair paintings by the same artist. I think one sold in Germany for somewhere around $900 and another sold at Christie's London in 2005 for around $1500 dollars. I know subject is important when it comes to painting value. So would it be safe to assume that the Moulin Rouge would be worth more? I would like to sell these paintings but I'm not sure what would be the best way to sell. Selling them at auction sounds exciting but its scarey to think someone could end up getting them for way under their value. Selling them outright might be the way to go but I'm not really sure what would be a fair price. Any suggestions or personal experience?

Antique Questions Forum / Painted Goblets
« on: January 17, 2012, 01:11:24 pm »
I have theses three strange goblets. I'm not sure what they are made of they kind of have a plastic feel to them. They are painted blue and white with a horse and carraige scene on the bottoms. Where some of the blue paint has chipped off it looks like an ugly brown translucent plastic? maybe bakelite? I didn't take pictures of the inside but it is not smooth. It has these four things that I guess are for reinforcement since they seem to brace the side to the bottom of the cup.

I think I remember seeing some documentary on PBS as a kid and part of it was about how some maker ended up with such an ugly colored product the only way to save his bussiness was to paint everything.

I think this is an older repro but since I can't find an older repro or an original to compare I have no way of knowing. I know the modern reproductions I have found do not have the written description of the scene like mine does at the bottom. It measures 21.5" tall and 20" wide and its on cardboard. Anyone ever see one of these before?

Antique Questions Forum / Chair Help Needed
« on: January 17, 2012, 11:02:24 am »
Can anyone tell me about this chair? I'm not sure if it was redone or not. I can't find any maker or anything. The bottom of the chair is covered with that black material they put on the bottom of couches so I cant get pics of the construction. It has wheels on the front legs. Is this a parlor chair?

I have this sculpture hopefully someone will recognize this because I have no clue. It measures about 20" long and about 7.5" tall. It looks like it had some sort of stamp on the bottom at one time but the paint chipped off and there isn't much left to go on.
