Its a very nice piece but looks a 100 + years later, 1920 ish. Its got an art deco appearance & It looks like its over restored  & not been done that well.
$600 is the asking price, We dealers will always negotiate $400 - $450 should secure a deal. Compare that to a new modern one & its a good deal

Lot of wisdom right here!!

If you do clean it up, would you be willing to send us a pic?  Now that we've seen the "before" I for one, would love to see the "after."

Tales, this looks as though it would be a counter safe.  Is that your thought as well?  How many pies do you think it would hold?  Looks like four to me, but I'm not sure.

Will be most interested in what you find out about it.

Good Luck and happy hunting!

Bet that stove could keep more than just one room well heated.

A beauty!

Great posts!

I'm grateful to be alive, and thank all  past and present who have enabled me to live.

A friend of mine whose parents were in WW2 observed casually, "How lucky we are!  No one is trying to kill us.  We are not trying to live on the run knowing that capture means death.  We have enough (or too much) to eat.  We can sleep with out fear of night arrest."

I have never forgotten he way he delivered those few words.

Peace to all.

Its not Japanese & its not chinese or north African either, posslbly Indian, but My money would be on Malasia.

Need better close up pics

I agree on all counts.  I picked up the zoom to 400% to try to see the design (if any) on the inside of the doors, but all I can see is blurr.

Can't help on your technical issues, but you have a very good looking clock!!!  Sugest at your convenience, replacing the painted glass that would have hidden the works from view by being mounted in the door  Even if you choose not to do that, you have one sweet looking clock - running or not

Congrats on a great find.

You've gotten a lot of good thoughts here.

One question:  Did the auctioneer who offered you $8 do so an an estimate of what it would bring at auction, or was her offering to purchase it all for $8k?  If the offer was an outright purchase offer, he only made it because he thinks he can make money on it.  Why don't you ask him for an auction estimate, and see if it is higher than $8K, then at least you know how much he hoped to make on the deal.

If you want to "get rid of it all in one fell swoop" as they say, auctions are the way to go.  You just need an honest auctioneer.  Try checking around for others, but please be sure to check them out through BBB or Yelp before giving them your stuff.  Otherwise, and additionally, the others here on the site have provided you with some great suggestions.
