Antique Questions Forum / Re: James Dixon & sons sugar bowl 1854
« on: March 09, 2010, 02:02:38 am »
Hi again,

Thanks everyone for the replies ;D

The way James Dixon & sons is stamp on the bowl was made between 1835 and 1879. And the date letter 'L' is for the year 1854.

Now I got all my info from the link below:

This is the link for sheffield silverware

http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/archive/index.php/t-11434.html

If I'm correct the diameter of the bowl is 13cm. Yes I'm not sure if it is a sugar bowl

Thanks again for all the help ;D

Hi everyone,

I have a James Dixon & Sons silverplate sugar bowl from 1854.
Please below find the inscription:

L    3
James Dixon & sons
Sheffield
EPBN
269

I attached pictures as well ;D

The bottom inside the bowl is scratch badly, the outside is ok. Some of the silverplate on the legs wear out. The bowl is not perfectly circle anymore. After all that, I still think it look gorgeous and shiny ;D

Does anyone knows the value of that bowl ???

Thanks KC ;D

I don't think it is precious, I wonder if someone actually took the bottom of it for the hallmark. It is very strange piece might stay in the bathroom to put cooton ball into it:)(lol)

Thanks KC ;D

Thanks KC, ;)

I'm working on it, will take a long time to find out.

I'm still happy the name is on the back of it, also the tile could be made 2 years ago.

I will contact H&R Johnson Ltd, maybe someone might know what year it was made.

No unfortunately no glass came with it :(

I don't see any marks at all .

What size normally would a hallmark be?

Thank You very much!

I took 2 pics of the back. in case you cant read it ,it says  "H & R JOHNSON Ltd" on the top line and I think the bottom line is clear but anyway it says MADE IN ENGLAND, in capitals, like that.
It seems like it was stuck to something as some stage but i think it was fabric...anyways the glue doesnt want to come off!!
It is glazed. The surface isnt flat so i guess it came from a mould, but then again i dont really know... :)
And thanks again.....

Hi Everyone,

I always find strange things:(

Does anyone knows what this object is? also there is a hole at the bottom perfectly cut, is there a chance this item was an ink pot?

It measure 14cm height.

« on: March 03, 2010, 02:46:45 am »
Hi Everyone,

I have a round tile glazed H&R Johnson but there is no year on it.

It is not flat surface it is all carved in( I hope I use the correct word ). It has a beautiful blue bird. I attached a picture of it.

Is there any indices to know a bit better the year it was made? ???
