Thank you very much ironlord. I thought of it being odd that it isn't an all too fancy of a plate...the under the glaze stamp seems suspicious to me. It would be very easy for anyone to find a nice, unglazed plate, stamp it, and sell it as the real thing.

Antique Questions Forum / Waffen SS Plate by Victoria?

Hello, I have another question pertaining to WW2 memorabilia. I was looking for WW2 items, especially Waffen SS, Hitler's elite force during world war two, when I noticed this plate. On the back it says Victoria Waffen SS. I don't know much about plate companies, but "Victoria" does not sound like German...but more like English...so is this possibly a fake? Here's the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/Waffen-SS-WW2-German-White-Serving-Plate-by-Victoria_W0QQitemZ130453507726QQcategoryZ208QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3910.m7QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D2%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D5027194741912953956

   Thanks

Hello, it's Julekpl again, here to waste more of your valuable time with pointless questions!

I recently received a baggie full of coins and a few paper bills, and I was wondering what they are worth. I checked ebay, and 3 other sites that deal with certain coins and paper money, but the price ranges were all over. I know people are going to hate me for doing this, but yes, I did clean a few of them, and I like them in the "original" state they were when they were first produced.
here are some pictures, I hope you enjoy!

A 1963 red $5 bill, state is ok, a few bends, and tiny brown parts.

a 1963 series A $10 bill, in mint condition, no flaws, no bends, no brown spots.

a 1950 series D $5 bill, condition is very good, but tiny parts of brown are seen on the edges.

a few coins, possibly Australian? Copper made, 1 is dated 1938, the 1 with the head is dated 1920 on the back. Both in mint condition, no scratches, or bumps.

more coins, from Australia.

US 1 cent from 1906, state is good, Indian's feathers are a little worn down.

To the left: Big coin, 1 dollar 1935, s series.

Cuban coin, 20 cents, 1915, mint.

Once again, I hope you enjoyed part of my collection, and please, if you know the price range for some of these, let me know! I appreciate it!

Are there any nails used in making it? Nails are a great way of finding out if an item has been refurbished, or what era it is from. I does look old, but then, such items can be made in the medieval style. Like other people have mentioned before me, look for a date, or initials anywhere on the box, or maybe an insignia which represents the worker's signature. Such items are better viewed in person, I wouldn't risk it, but it does look like it was well made, to last.

I appreciate it, thank you. Yeah I started cleaning them, but they are not too uncommon. Just a few half dollars, different kinds of coins, no older than 1900, and no, I don't plan on selling them.

Antique Questions Forum / A question about coin cleaning.

Hello, Julekpl again.

I have a question about coin cleaning. I received a bag of early 1900's coins, from all around the world, and I was wondering, what is the best way of cleaning them? I know, certain metals are cleaned different ways. I've been told that all I need is a toothbrush, and some soap, but that hasn't done much at all. I've also heard that putting coins in boiling lemon juice does the trick, but I don't want to waste a nice coin if it doesn't work.

  Please help!

Thank you very much Skinny, and everyone else. I couldn't find the book on the website, unfortunately. All the guy told me, that I bought the book from, was that he found in his house's cellar, in a box of other Czech items, mainly religious. I myself am Polish, and I speak and read it, and so, since Czech is very close to Polish, I made out that this is, in fact, a first communion book, possibly for children going into first communion. I would think that this book may be worth the most for a collector of foreign religious books. Even if the book isn't worth much, I hardly paid anything for it, but I picked it out because of the cover. I've seen many 1800's era books, and I have a few myself, but I've rarely seen one with such a detailed cover. Whoever had this book must have probably treasured it.

Some of them look similar, but I've seen only about 2 with a similar portrait in the front, but they were not on sale, but on google images

Thank you very much!
Yes, the antique markets in Poland are very diverse. People sell everything from pre ww1 era grandfather clocks, (which I have one)
many Ww2 era items, including Nazi, Russian, and all kinds of stuff. I'll post more in the antique talk board.

P.s pictures are in poor quality, my battery was nearly dead.

Hello people! I just got back from Poland and I've found a few antiques I find interesting. I bought this Czech first communion preparatory book  at an antique market, and I tried to find some things about it, but seemed to come up. The cover is what got my attention. The little portrait in the middle fascinated, especially for the year, and so I had to have it.

Any thoughts about the price, or more information? Thank you!

Antique Questions Forum / Need help deciding on metal detector!
« on: May 30, 2010, 10:40:27 pm »
Hi people. I know metal detectors aren't antiques but I have a serious question. I'm going hunting for ww2 relics such as Helmets, bullet shells, ect, that can be found under 1.5 feet of dry dirt. I found this cool metal detector for a good price, but is it any good? heres the link.

Please help, Julekpl

maybe it's an antique food strainer used to keep leftovers from going down the drain, and possibly clogging it up.
