Antique Questions Forum / An old medallion...

Does any one know anything about this medallion? It's worth? Where it's from, etc.  It's my grandparents any they've been trying to figure out it's history with no luck so far. They even took it to the Antique Road Show but no one knew anything about it.

Here's a picture of both sides. It's about 3 inches in diameter.
