Thank you so much for the information.  Could that silver thing have been used for absynthe at one time?  I know it was a popular hallucogenic in the 1800's .  ???? maybe???

 Hey I wonder if it is a religious piece.   hmmm. cept there doesn't appear to be any religious symbols on it.  The holes on the bulb part of it go right through it as if it needed ventilation for something, that's why I thought it was a smoking pipe.  I can't find anything on it ANYWHERE.  Good luck!

Interesting advice whoever you may be.  I have been a member of various forums for years and have NEVER had that comment made as we all do it on other sites.

I'm here for answers....... not criticisms.

P.S  Any news on the Palenske yet?
 ;)

Yes the object appears to be solid silver.  It came with my grandmothers 17th century spoon set.  I mean it was in the same box.  It is 8 inches long and has the look of being hand hammered, not machined.  I'm still looking for a makers mark.  I got a hold of a jewellers eye glass today.

Hi Tim,

I'm Mark, Debra's husband.  Even if I cut this into 3 sections, by the time I resize to 10K (as listed at the bottom of the page) I've got such poor resolution I cannot see it.

I can post this image to the HP share to web site (our camera is an HP) or email directly, or the resolution may not be as good as I'd like.  Do you have any suggestions - is there a particular program you use to resize and not lose resolution?

Mark

This is the last of my grandma's collection.  I tried to take digi pictures of the Cabot spoon but they end up hazy. ;) So here is the final piece of pottery.

Thank you so much for the info.  There are no cracks, chips or hazes.  The set is mint!  Now I'll keep it a little higher on the shelf though :o

My hubby took some more shots,  if anyone has information on the following please, please let me know.
