Antique Questions Forum / Re: Very Old Hand Carved Wood Cheshire Cat?
« on: August 24, 2012, 06:58:52 am »
I have almost the same cat only mine is arched up in fright. Same coloring, wood, general carving design ect.. I am with whoever said mid 90's art. After really looking mine over I came to the conclusion that while it appeared old it wasn't as old as I first thought.

Antique Questions Forum / Levi's jeans
« on: August 23, 2012, 07:27:49 am »
While sorting product at work yesterday I came across a old pair of Levi's jeans. The strange thing is they have a orange colored diamond shaped label on the back right pocket. It reminds me of the guess jeans label in a way. I have spent a few hours trying to figure out if these are real or rare or what. I have hit a dead end and was wondering if you wonderful people had any info on these. I am wondering if they were made for export? I apologize for no pictures my boss took them home for a little tlc before they hit ebay later this week.

Oh and so far everything that we know they seem legit. The tab is written in all caps and the rivets and stitching seem right. Just that darn label has me concerned.

I will try and check in from work and maybe she brought them back and we can post a few picts.

Come on Wendy !! Help,, who made these !! This particular type of glass with the stippling still looks like Libby to me !!
Or at least a more modern manufacturer!!

If it make you feel better Mart think its Libby as well.  I almost swear we had a set of these from Libby or I have priced a set at some point.(I run a thrift store) They are really familiar and that is the name that came to mind.

Antique Questions Forum / Re: Do we go together?
« on: September 12, 2011, 07:19:02 am »
No they don't go together. The lid is most likely for a casserole dish or serving dish. The Cake stand(glass bottom) would have a tall domed lid if it had one at all. I would not scrap the lid I would try and list it separately. Like Cougar said someone is looking for that lid.

Antique Questions Forum / Have a cleaning question.

Yesterday while sorting at work I came across a really nice Hagger vase. However, someone spray painted it an ugly john deer green  ??? I used a razor blade to gently clean off the bottom to see the mark and it didn't damage the glaze at all. There still is a white residue left though. I want to remove the paint to see what colors the vase actually is. I'm not sure paint thinner would be a good idea? I also remember when I used to play Warhammer 40k I used to soak my miniatures in brake fluid to remove the paint w/o damaging the pewter or glue. So what are your thoughts?

I found what seems to be the exact same pair while sorting and pricing antiques at work last week. The ones I found were not in a frame. If they are the same the lighter handle on the knife appeared to be similar to Bakelite. There was a pattern to them that reminded me of a post here that talked about fake ivory. The fork did appear to be the same as the knife but was done really well that I am not 100% its not bone.

I am trying to remember if these had the makers mark or not. I believe after doing some basic research I priced them separately at $25.00 ish a piece. Now keep in mind that I work for a Thrift store which affects my pricing to a extent. I cannot price like a antique store. Oh and the mark I looked up was German from the 30?s I think.

Nice rocker! I also have mine from childhood. It just hit vintage this year lol. I can still fit in it  :D However we don't use it since my kiddos can seem to stop "breaking" it. I had it repaired last year but then someone too big tired to use it again or it was rocked too hard and the rockers came loos again. I guess its off to the carpenter again *sigh*

The basket may be Fenton. Does the handle have a pressed mark where it connects to the basket? If it does it would be very helpful to find the maker and verify its Fenton.

Antique Questions Forum / Re: need help identifying these chairs
« on: June 14, 2011, 05:59:43 pm »
I was wondering that also Mario. The top does look like walnut but the legs remind me of the legs of my rocking chair. I believe my chair is made of pine.

I am curious to know whether this is metal or not, if you tap a spoon on the back side what does it sound like?
Does anyone else think that from the back this looks like molded metal??

If it is I would think that having it appraised would be a good way to go.

I was wondering that as well. It reminded me of molded pewter or maybe cast iron? If it was cast iron it would explain the weight.

How big is the base and the opening on the top? If it was a hookah there are parts missing. I have a vintage Hookah that is around 2 feet high and has 4 mouth pieces.

I can't add anything of value but I needed to say. Holy cow that is an awesome chair! So unique. I hope you can find a value but if all else fails I bet you could get on Antiques Roadshow with that baby.

I sold both of those sets in my Thrift Store a few months back. I think I got around $3.50 for them. I have been told for them to be of any real value they must have cork stoppers.
