Thank you both.

Unfortunately I don't have the bottle on me at present, so can't post any more pictures right now.

But I think I may have found what it is.

Seems to be a porron (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porron),  an old Spanish wine decanter.

It seems very difficult to use, but as Miss Platinum said, it does make for a beautiful decoration!

Hi all,

I saw this old bottle in a secondhand shop today and absolutely love it.  Unfortunately the owner couldn't really give me a concrete answer on what it is, or what it was used for, but said she thinks it may have been used to serve wine?

I know I've seen the same thing before, so don't think it's all that rare, but what exactly is it?

Thanks, yet again, in advance!

Thanks all.
Sara, that's basically exactly how the box looks/works, good eye there!

I'm using this for a bit of a restoration/woodwork project, for myself, so appreciate all the advice.

Have found a small angel for inside, and bought black paint to give it a new coat (it was never varnished or anything)

Will post pics as the project continues.

Thanx again!

Hi all,

I bought this old music/jewellery box at a second hand shop today, that I'm hoping to restore to close to its original condition.  As can be seen in the pics, it is in a very bad condition, and needs a lot of work.  That's where I hope you guys can help a bit.

I have no clue how these boxes looked when they were in their prime.  Especially as to what was in the front box (behind the clear glass), if anything.  At the moment there are just two small hand made flower type things.

Other than that, it's quite easy to see that we need to make a new "drawer" for the one side, and get pink velvet material for the drawer that's missing that.  Is anything else missing?

It says an original tivoli product on the bottom, and plays the tune "Raindrops keep falling on my head"

Any other help will be appreciated.

Thanks again!

Thank you all so much for the responses.

I will try to get better photos of everything asap.

Thank you for the link to replacements ltd,  it proved invaluable, and I've been able to identify the set we own as part of the "Old English Sampler" range.  That alone has helped us tremendously!

As for the dresser set, I found with some research also that it is a kidney shaped desk (probably from French origin), but other than that nothing.  Anybody with more info on it?

Thanks again for the help thus far!

Hi all,

Newbie here.

Could you please help out on a few things I'm trying to sell on a local auction site (in South Africa).

I want to put correct market prices on (don't want to over or undervalue my items).

Thanks in advance!

First is this old French? dresser and cast iron swivel mirror.  The dresser isn't in the best condition but the mirror is still beautiful.  We bought it with our house, and according to them it's at least 80 years old, but probably closer to 100 years old...

Then I also have an old tot measure, in wood with mirror.  Have no idea of age, person I got it, said it's been in a couple of "drinking generations" in their family.

Lastly I have this old H&K Tunstall Porcelain Tea set.  Has the green mark on bottom, which apparently means it was made in the late 30's early 40's.  Unfortunately one saucer broke long ago (so it is a 20 piece, instead of 21 piece set).

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

Alta.
