in the uk they are called tilly lamps and that is also a make here (tilly) i have a few all that i have picked up for free

yep im sure they will be ok nice to have a set of 4 but 6 would have been better i only paid £20 for them so it will be alright

there ash and the wood is really sound and all the joins are solid but not sure i have time to do them at the min so will go in the shed till got some more time as i can not see a quick turnover on them

its the pictures that make them look good there is alot of wear on them that bit you are on about looks like someone has been at it with a pocket knife or something like that it is damage that has been done on purpose

thr reason for the two types or grain is the boards are missing and it is sat on a pine table to take photos

yes there is a board missing on it but its not a problem for a photo as it is open bottom anyway

no it has never been anything else but a chair its very odd that box is only 7"deep and all the joins are wooden pinned

affraid not it is not lift up lid to the top of the seat its 17" and to the top of the back its 37"

well just to put my 10 pence worth in i think it could be the water out let cap off a horse drawn fire tender I'm into vintage tractors and have seen things like this before then the hose would connect onto where this cap came off
