A very fond wish that all the forum members and guests have a delightful Fourth of July!!!!!!!!!!

Been talking over this one with fancy; we don't know what components were painted gold & stripped off & other info.

Maybe this was a gold-gilded bronze lamp, rewired with modern electrics- if so, too bad about removing the 'paint' from it.
If you've got something that is bronze, we suggest you disassemble the unit & look for a signature on the metal, esp. around the i/s base area. You might also look for any misc. older parts within the assembly.

If the lamp is just a 'modern' repro that somebody gave the shabby-chic treatment, maybe you can just plug it in & enjoy it anyways .

I'm just guessing here, but thought I'd add the possibility that this metal object may have been part of a figural mantle clock.

Kinda hard for me to tell from your images, Oceans64 , but it seems more like a cast-glass item, with some elements that have been ground (stopper, neck & lip).

I'd suggest looking for a seam or three, from a glass mold, on the outside of the decanter.

Usually 'ground crystal' has got fairly sharp edges & very flat ground surfaces (as well as concave & convex ones), from the time-consuming manufacturing process.

Regarding the question about the 'etching' for the stopper on your item :

It's really a result of a grinding process; often the stopper & neck were ground at the same time & then numbered identically (so that they could be sold/shipped together). This is not always the case with mass-produced items, as sometimes there's just a 'universal jig' for the stoppers/containers.

The irregularities you see in the neck grind are a result of the variances of thickness/texture within the glass/crystal neck itself.

I'm wondering if these cool lamps of yours have wicks or not, marcylove?

Just wondering if these are oil lamps or carbide lamps.

I like to use flat brass stock for scrapers, since it's easy to sharpen&/or dull & cut into custom contours.

Hmmm... I don't know the store/manufacturer/etc. as described on the tag in your posted image cee_jay, but if you'd include it & an image of the whole chair via email (not from a phone/blackberry) to Mr. Fred Taylor at 'info@furnaturedetective.com', you might just get the info you seek.

I'm of the opinion that your chair is early 20th century (from your pics), though.

Cool old windsor-ish chair!
