Exquisite piece. I have been followed by people numerous times at garage sales and flea markets. Recently one guy started to try and out bid me at a garage sale. Thankfully the guy who was selling it wanted no part in it. If you dont mind me asking how much did you pay?

Antique Questions Forum / BaseBall glove
« on: August 24, 2010, 09:55:40 am »
During my trip to PA I made sure I went out to the local garage sales and flea markets. I picked up a few things and will post other threads. This Glove however has been hard to find anything close to it. I know nothing about collectible sports items, but with a fair price of $2.00 I had to have it.
From what I have seen 1940's is my guess.
Trusport is on the label
"Phila PA" seems to be at the bottom of the label
Walter "BIFF" Berger on the glove side

Over all the glove is in ruff shape but I haven't personally seen any in better condition than this, and they were selling them for $150.00
SO some help finding some info would be great!!!

Also, should I use anything to "clean" it up?

I know the rule of thumb is to leave everything as is but the leather seems stiff...

is that for sale?

They are not for sale at the moment. I need to decide if I want to start selling on ebay or not. I have tons of stuff but don't know if its worth the time.

Just sent a pic off to some of my friends in hopes they can help out!

Thanks, again any information would be greatly appreciated.

Antique Questions Forum / Planes and a box

Well seeing how everyone here has been so helpful I figured why not take advantage of your kindness LOL.... In all seriousness I really appropriate people taking the time to answer my questions.  From as long as I can remember I have always bought and sold stuff with my father. I have learned a great deal from him, and absolutely love finding new treasures. Just the sight of what other consider junk I find fascinating and figure you all do as well. So I have been thinking this will be my new home for my unusual finds, because the girl friend rolls her eyes every time I walk in the door after a day of garage sales.

I have here a couple planes one is a Stanley #5 and an unknown smaller one.

My question is should I restore them?

I have the time and love projects but wondering if my $1.00 investment in the pair will have any type of profit worth hours of restoring.

The second item is a box that was given to my Girlfriend from a pen-pal years ago. The box as she was told was made in Germany where her pen-pal grew up, he picked it up who knows where. Just more of a curiosity more than anything else. There is no inscription, no maker, nothing but the date.

I picked the up for $10 for the pair. If anything I figured I could get that much back out of them. Like I said before I normally stick with what I know, too many times I pay to much for something worth nothing. Its been a while since that's happened. I talk to the guy I bought them from an he said he has used them recently to make a few cuts. He said he hated to use them but they were a better cut than his "new" pull saw.

I really do appreciate you all taking the time to look into this for me. I normally don't pick up stuff like this. I stick to what I know, this however caught my eye and couldnt resist. If you stumbled across this as I did what would you pay? Just a shot in the dark?

well thanks for the insight. (Hoping someone reads Japanese here) HA If you were to find these at a garage sale what would you pay for them?

EDIT wonder if I should go to a Japanese steak house near where I live and see if someone could translate.....

I picked up a pair of what I believe are Japanese back saws from 1940 or so.
The date is mostly a guess.

Other than that, I have no other information on them.
Pictures below.

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you for your time!
