Antique Questions Forum / Re: Vintage fur (mink?) stole
« on: September 11, 2010, 05:37:11 pm »
Many thanks for all the info...from what I had seen previously on ebay I didn't think the piece was going to be worth much. And just to let everyone know, I don't believe in wearing fur either (hence the reason I'm looking to sell it), I'm aware of the cruel and inhumane treatment in the fur industry. So don't jump on my case because I own this piece, I didn't buy it, it was bought in an earlier era when it was acceptable to wear fur. Again, thanks for the info, especially the advice to contact the historical society, because I would like to find out more about the origin of this piece and have no other route now that both my grandparents are gone.

Antique Questions Forum / Vintage fur (mink?) stole
« on: September 09, 2010, 07:26:42 pm »
I recently received this vintage stole when my grandmother passed away and can't find any information about the manufacturer. The tag inside reads "State Fur Co, Billings' Oldest Furrier" and there is a floral pattern embroidered in the lining. I believe this piece is from the 1950s or early '60s (she was married in 1958), and I have a vague recollection from when I was very small of her saying it was mink. The research I've done seems to corroborate that, it does have the look and feel of mink. There is also a monogram on the lining that reads "M.M.S." which is nowhere near my grandmother's name. If anyone has any information on State Fur Co or on the value of such a piece, I would be very grateful. Thanks!
