I found a trophy in a field that has been damaged, but thought it might be of some value because of the inscription. It reads as follows:
Won by Pope Hartford
Sept. 19, 1909
time 3 hrs 4 sec
93.6 miles
W.M.R. Ruess driver
(ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE TROPHY IT READS:)
presented to W.R. Ruess
by
F.C. Fenner
In token of everlasting friendship and square dealing on the Baldy Race Course
Sept. 19, 1909
YO CONFIO EN USTED
On the bottom of the trophy it says :
Warranty
Homan Mfg. Company
3077
Quadruple plate
3 special metal
made in the USA
The trophy itself is 13 1/2 " tall , it is a cup type trophy with handles on each side.
Any information on the race or the people named on the trophy or any other information would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
