Antique Questions Forum / Re: carved wood captains and pirates?
« on: October 30, 2010, 09:57:06 pm »
I agree, all new, usually found as souvenirs.  Not sure of their origin as I have never bought one. Buy them if you like them but they are not old folk art.

Thanks, I really thought they were different, but hey I AM like so not an expert with these items, thank you again for the info.

Antique Questions Forum / japanese wood dolls? or
« on: October 03, 2010, 08:48:25 pm »
I found these in my shoe box saves, because I like dolls that are different like the three faced doll that i have. Not sure if this is light weight wood or driftwood made? For sure they are not plastic. The japanese dolls have little signs on the back of their shoes but no signature or anything else on the bottom of the feet. Is this of the 60's?  or the 70's?  please let me know. thanks.

Antique Questions Forum / 3 faced doll porcelain doll
« on: September 25, 2010, 04:08:37 pm »
I have had this for about 8 years, purchased from a thrift store and it was so interesting I had to buy it. I showed my co workers and they freaked out but I thought it must have some type of vintage or history to it, the top of the head has a hole and maybe there was something there that turned it for the child to see all faces? I am just taking a wild guess. It's in mint condition, even the finger nail polish on the girl is not chipped nor is her body, however from the waist up is porcelain but the waist down is all cloth. I don't have a pic of the bonnet but I do have it in one of my other shoe boxes. It has no name or anything marked on it at all, so that's why I am wondering if someone just bought the items from an catalog like a doll catalog and did it themselves? or ???

Please let me know.

thank you

Antique Questions Forum / cup and plate from japan
« on: September 25, 2010, 09:56:03 am »
I purchased this over 15 years ago from a lady in West Covina and her husband gave them to her 20 years ago, so it's at least 35 years or more old. I did not question her nor him on where he had got them. They are in 14 carat gold trim and the plate has in linings of the gold trim, with yellow flowers and there is an exact little circle with gold on the plate where the cup is to be placed. and the cup's handle is part gold also, and on the bottom of each it has the letter 'G' and leaves circled around the letter and below that it says made in Japan, I just don't know whom had made this or is it real or what?
