Antique Questions Forum / Antique Eccentric Trunk/chest

Hello everyone. I have come across quite an interesting piece at an estate sale. I normally do no have any issues identifying a piece but this one has absolutely no markings on it whatsoever or any kind of serial numbers. It is a medium sized chest/trunk which has an extrodinary painting of a leapard on with a scenic background. Inside is a velvet lining. I was wondering how to identify this piece. What is a good age to estimate this piece at? What type of wood do we have here? What would a rough estimate of how much it would be worth in a retail market setting. I know there are collectors out there for these types of items but does the fact that my piece has a hand painted wild animal and scenic background make it more valuble? Could this piece be possibly be handcrafted? I would greatly appreciate some feedback on this piece? Does anyone one find it extrodinary that someone actually painted this on the trunk? I find the leapard painting on this to be unbelievable considering that it was painted on wood.  Here are the photos! Thanks everyone. I am glad i can share this piece with you all.

Antique Questions Forum / Antique/Vintage Pie Basket
« on: June 08, 2011, 08:20:40 am »
Hello everyone, i have come across a a vintage/antique pie basket. There is no maker on it just someones name which under it says Costanza and a stamp that says L.1.W. I have done alot of research and found similar baskets but not the exact same one and not in complete and as good condition as mine. I was wondering if anyone could possibly date it, let me know if there is a market for these fascinating pieces, and give me a rough value. It is hard when coming across something that doesn't have a maker. I believe it may be handmade? Does it seem so? Thanks everyone here are detailed pics.

This is pretty much the back view. Pretty interesting for the late 1800's. As it sits what would a rough estimated value be and restored what do you think it would fetch. Is there a big market for these types of Victorian Gadgets?

Do you have any idea what the value might be? A rough estimate of the amount i could get for it? Thanks for your reply.

Antique Questions Forum / Victorian Western Electric Annunciator
« on: June 07, 2011, 06:57:56 pm »
Hello everyone. I have come across a Western Electric Annunciator which i believe to be the first of electrical annunciators to be made. I bought it at an auction of an old western inn in upstate NY. I know what it is, what it was used for, and i know quite a bit about Western Electric, but i can not find any info on this specific item. Nothing to find out specific information on it or prices to guide me when selling it. I believe it to be anywhere from 1872-1893 by dating when they first started making these items. But has anyone ever seen one of these? Is there a collectors market? What would be a rough value on it. Please help here are the detailed pics. Thanks everyone!
