I think it's made of something similar to concrete maybe? It looked old like it was cast from a mold because I see air bubbles in some areas or what might be plaster stuck in som of the holes

Hello everyone! Here I will be showing you pictures of a fireplace that was inside of a house that my dad bought in Youngstown Ohio back in the 70's. He discovered the fireplace after he cleaned and repaired the home because there were plants, vines, and trees growing inside of the house. I went to the historical society of Youngstown to see if they could help me out with finding any info on the house or architect, but we found nothing. The Youngstown library was of no help as well. From all of the research and info that I have gathered on the house and the fireplace is this: the house was built in 1895. The fireplace was made in Italy, and that there were two that were made in similar, almost identical fashion. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks

Antique Questions Forum / Ancient Chinese stone lidded jar?

Hello everyone! It has been quite some time since I got on this forum, but since I have inherited a very interesting piece of art from my late uncle, I would like to share it with all of you to see what kind of information that you might be able to provide me with. This jar looks to be hand carved out of stone (possibly jade?) and from the naked eye, it seems to be very old as well. My uncle bought this piece of work in China in the 60,s from an antique store. He loves collecting antiques, and this piece was always kept in a lockable glass display case. Before he died, he told me that he wanted me to keep that piece because I myself am an artist, and I create lidded jars for a living. Could anyone give me some information on what this might be? Time period, material, worth etc. Much appreciated!

Hey all. My dad has asked me  to research what an ansel adams coffee can is worth. Its a picture of a mountain panoramic view of Yosemite, and it has no dents and a little rust. Haven't been able to tell him if its worth anything much. No pictures for now. I am messaging from my phone. Thanks alot!

Antique Questions Forum / Re: Butterfly wing collage

It is not my objective to offend anyone with this piece. I don't fish, hunt, or have anything wrong with either of these things. I also do not have a problem with leather, furs, ivory, or anything that falls into a similar grouping as far as using the remains of an animal for pure elegance. Killing an elephant just for the ivory would be something that I would consider wrong. With butterflies, it too would be wrong to farm them and slay them just for specific pieces of art. I would like to hope that these butterfly wings were collected after their lives, but who knows what happened here.

Here is what I think the symbol on lock looks like:

Curious as to what time period works such as this was made

This is another thing my mom inherited when her mother passed away. It is a big 2 1/2'x6' butterfly wing artpiece. It is holographic and very unique. I searched for her to see if I could find anything online to compare it to.

This is on back of the frame, not the piece

Hey there. I just took some pictures of my moms dresser that she inherited from her mother. It is decorated with iridescent landscapes and definitely has an Asian feel to is all.

I am pretty sure this might be a Korean symbol:
