Antique Questions Forum / German Beer Stein - help identify

I have no idea if any of you guys will be able to help but I bought this today for $10 at a garage sale because it looked neat.

It has a date of 1646 on the cup as you may be able to see..on the rim of the cup it has 1/2 L:, on the bottom it has Made in West Germany with a stampers mark. So if anyone can help with whether it's a legit piece and value, I would appreciate it.
