I think it may have been a porcelain insulator for a power line that has just been broken and ground down by the water current.

EBay Forum / Re: Items not showing up in Ebay search results
« on: July 20, 2012, 10:39:55 am »
They would show up for Ebay on their work computers because they use Firefox but the items would only sometimes show up usually after many refreshes using internet explorer or google chrome. First ebay employee was supposed to send my problem to tech dept but failed to do so. The next day a second ebay employee was supposed to call me the next day and update me on what was happening. I waited around most of the day and no call.

I don't list much on ebay and I make my starting prices an amount I can live with so it doesn't affect me much. I wanted to warn the others on here that may list much more than me. How can you really have a fair action if your items only show up in searches sometimes? I really feel bad for the people that roll the dice and start off with low starting bids. All you need is one person to see it and bid and no one else might not see it again for the rest of the auction.

So I guess my items ended before they could even look at the problem. I guess ebay can fix most auction problems within 7 days. Just let the auction run out of time and let the seller walk away from ebay.

Over 5 days into a 7 day auction I wondered why I had no views. So I did a search for one of my items and it wouldn't show up. I contacted ebay and they had the same problem with an item of mine not showing when they did a search. First they told me that their fraud filters are working and it may take a few hours for my listing to show up. I told her but my item has been listed for over 5 days now and still not showing up. She told me tech would look into the problem and we got off the phone. I decided I better search all my listings to see how many are having problems. I found a few other items that dont always show up in search results. I can't help but wonder how long this has been going on and how much money this has cost me? I guess I'm going to have to check all the time to see if my listings actually show up in search results.

In pic #1 it looks like there is writing on the curved part of the handle towards the spout. What does that say?

I swear I saw something like that in a movie before. For some reason mad max comes to mind but I'm pretty sure it was a different movie that just kind of reminded me of mad max. Movie prop?

Its kind of neat how eveyone is looking at the same object but we all see something different. lol!

I think Rauville nailed it on the head. I found some of their fishing maps in the same file cabinet. I was even saying to my wife it looks like a moon and an eye but what does it mean? I never would of related it to fishing. Mystery solved I'm the proud owner of a Mooneye belt buckle. Thank you!!!!

I knew it was a long shot but on the other hand you never know what someone here might recognize. It could be an art piece but there didn't really seem like there was much room for art in this collectors life. The old owner was all about tobacco(mosly cigars) and sports memorabilia so I wondered if it wasn't a cigar brand logo or something.

I found this sterling belt buckle hiding in a little wood file cabinet that pretty much just fell apart when I went to pick it up. Its all sterling silver except the loop your belt would go through is brass I think. I'm most curious about what exactly its suposed to be. I see it has a cresent moon but what is with the circle in a circle? The only marking I can find on it is a C on the brass loop. Thanks!

Super informative as usual mart! I'll use the iron and I have heavy pieces of glass from a glass desk that should flatten it back out. $50 to $75 sounds good to me. Thanks mart!! I'll let you know how things turn out.

Antique Questions Forum / Jackie O Painting
« on: April 18, 2012, 11:31:38 am »
I bought this painting months ago and to be honest I had no clue who it was. A few weeks ago someone was over and they said "Wow is that Jackie Kennedy"? Soon as they said it I thought holy crap it is her.

What is showing of the painting measures about 15" X 11". It looks like it is just signed TERRY and dated 1962. Most likely it was inspired by the first official White House press release photo from 1961 since its the same pose. I'm not sure what kind of painting it is. It seems like the paint is laid on alot thicker than any watercolors I have seen. It was done on blue paper that has some writing pressed into it. The only thing I could make out was 100% cotton.

I really like this painting. I don't feel my pictures do it justice. Most paintings I can find were done after JFK was assassinated and they always seem to have a sad look in her eyes. There is one condition issue. The painting is wavy. Is that something that could be fixed? Would it even be worth fixing? Any guesses as far as a value?

Sometimes I find an original sticker or what is left of a sticker on the inside of a drawer with the makers name on it.

I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction. Of course I forgot to measure it but its somewhere around 14 or 15 inches in diameter and is about 4 or 5 inches high.

Very close but mine are very crude compared to examples I could find of that pattern. I also couldn't find any with the rim folded under. I'm not sure if these are 19th century or are depression era plates that would be given away with the purchase of something like detergent.
