Antique Questions Forum / vintage Koch Lowy brass lamp, tarnished - effect of polishing on value?

hello out there - I have a sweet Koch Lowy floor lamp that I think would look really dynamite if i polished the brass, but am wary of doing anything that might ruin the aged patina it has acquired in the last 40 years - any thoughts on this?  Thanks!
