Hey guys...its been awhile since I posted on here.

I found this Vermeil Chafing Dish and sent it to a couple of auction houses to look at without any real positive feedback so I listed it on eBay. I am disappointed in the attention this item has received...i thought it would be more popular at least with the silver melters!! Is vermeil less desirable to silver melters?

My guess of the maker is Karl & Heinrich Hain from Grossauheim which were silver makers from 1910.

Any input you guys have would be appreciated!

I don't understand why you think Maryland would not have 12th century items???

This seller is in Maryland, USA don`t you wonder where they would have run across an item from the 12th century ??  A garage sale maybe ??  The description of it states "pre 1800" and I would doubt that !!  One thing you learn in the antique business is to start with the assumption that it is not what they say,,until they prove it is,, or you prove it to your satisfaction !!  Never rely on what a person says when they are trying to sell you something !!

How big is your monitor?

from where i,m sitting....it does,nt look 900 years old...its just my opinion...it could have been made last week....for something that "old"....i would expect to see deterioration..of some sort.....this looks like its never seen a flame in its life....

But take the price and the fact that it is on eBay out of the equation. Is there something visually or otherwise that would make you think it is that new??? I have seen many multi thousand dollar items on eBay starting at $0.99 to $9.99

But we,re not talking about Christies here...we are talking ebay with a start price of $9,99....for something that is allegedly 900 years old.....

Similar ones that have sold on Christies say 12th or 13th century. What about it makes you think it is so new???

Who said it was 12th century.......by the looks of it....its lucky if its the 20th century.....

I have this African figure of a woman holding a baby while balancing a basket on her head. It seems to be made of a bronze material wrapped around a coal type material. There are rectangular portions of the bronze that have been cut away to show the coal type material on the inside. 2 spots on the back of the head behind the ears, 2 spots on the underarms, and then the entire inside of the legs and crotch area. The dimensions are approximately 14.5" high x 5" wide at shoulders x 1.5" thick at waist.

Some keywords that I have been trying are:
african woman figure
african cameroon
african woman statue
african figure maternity

Any help would be appreciated. If you need better pictures let me know and I can set up some higher definition pics in my dropbox.

Thanks for your help,

So bigwull what era are these from? 1800s? It is a beautiful piece...definitely hand hammered.
as well as being of different sizes..they are of different configurations...i. e. the top of the larger one has a different shaped rim...

My wife picked this Antique Solid BRASS Double INKWELL with Porcelain Liners on a Footed Tray by JH Depose. The problem I am having is understanding why the red inkwell is larger than the black inkwell. I would think the black one would be larger....unless this person was an editor???? Any thoughts other than my?

Thanks Mart. Do you think its worth more than $10?

Its transferware so pretty new  The crazing appears to be under the glaze so likely a paint technique not from age,, and its too consistant !!   Over the piece evenly crazed !! Not that much age showing on bottom !!

I found this chinese vase/urn at an estate sale and have been racking my brain to find something out about it. At first I thought it was maybe from the longquan kiln but it has more of a blue/grey color from firing rather than the greenish color those pieces usually have but then I saw an article on how toward the wanli period pottery was more blue due to the minerals in the clay and that would explain why there is no signature on the bottom. The other thing that baffles me is there seems to be a raised kinda sorta letter "L" with maybe another raised mark on the inside bottom of the vase in the clay.

Any help determining dynasty, kiln, value, or if this piece is real or fake would be greatly appreciated and here are some specs on the vase/urn:

Dark blue figural scene with 2 fighting figures and 6 onlookers .
6 sets of blue rings around the vase.
Floral design separating the 2 scenes, and around the top and bottom of the vase.

14.5 inches ( 36.83 cm) in height .
4 inch (10.16 cm) diameter opening.
15.5 inch ( 39.37 cm) base circumference.
24 inch( 60.96 cm) circumference at largest area .

Weight 6.3 pounds ( 2.8 kilograms) .
