It appears that the mark is under the glaze and looks to be painted on.

We have an old vase about 6 inches high and a dark mustard colored with yellow flowers and brown embellishements. It is marked E.F. Co. No. 17 on the bottom. Any help in identifying the marks will be greatly appreciated. It came from my Great Aunts estate in Northern Michigan.
