Antique Questions Forum / metal army bowl ?

Does anyone know anything about a bowl i have. It is metal, goldish in color (brass?), and it is only marked on the bottom with "U.S.". It has no adornment at all and a very wide, flat rim. Seems to me like some kind of military bowl because of the "U.S." on the bottom
