Just a last post to see if anyone has any more ideas on value.  If I were to put them on ebay, should I put them as a set or individually?  If as a set, any suggestions as to how much to ask?  Thanks!

Ah, I see you've already solved this one.  4cm does seem a bit large for a charm...

Hi Maylynee,

My best guess at this point is that it is a pewter charm for a charm bracelet from the 1950s or 60s.  These charms became the top selling jewlery/accessory in the 50s for women.  If you take the charm and rub it across a peice of paper and see a pencil like mark, it is likely pewter, which contains a high lead content.  If not, it may be sterling (see if you see a small 925 on it anywhere, which would indicate silver).  Have you cleaned it?

These charms are selling for 2-3 dollars on ebay.  Unless you can find more on the specific manufacturer and it's someone famous, I wouldn't expect more.  But, it is cute!

Thanks Ipcress and Mart.

I don't think the backing on the KGB pin is original.  It is a different weight, different metal, and does seem much more modern.

For the others, I do think they are commemorative, except for the hanging circle one, which I was told was for a certain number of years of service in the KGB.

The rest are relatively light, so I didn't think they would be worth much.  The exception is the rectangle picture of Dostoevsky, which is heavy, and I thought the commemorative piece on the Olympic boxing match might be worth something to a collector.  Mart, how did you find out about the value of the Olympic piece?

Thanks, again!

Hi All,

I bought these in St. Petersberg about 8 years ago.  I figured they weren't worth much, but I was wondering if anyone had information on them.  I'm especially interested in the one depicting the US - Soviet Olympic boxing match and the sheild with the sword through the star.

I'll have to post them in multiple posts because I couldn't get good pics of them together.

Thanks,
Evan

Here's a comparison to a french music powder box: http://www.auntjudysattic.com/product_detail_VS5.htm. I think you're on the right track here.

Hi Ironlord - I finally heard back from my colleagues in Burma, and, unfortunately, none of them recognize the script as Shan.  That doesn't mean that it's not an ancient script, just that, in 2013, they can't read it.  Sorry not to be more help, but I was wondering if you had heard any more back.

Thanks so much to all of you!  That's a great tip on dating jewlery - I really appreciate it.

There is more writing (Chinese characters, I think) on the loop around the chain.  My camera's on the fritz, but I'll post a close up when I fix it.  Maybe the writing is the mark, but I have no idea what it might say.

Two more - a close up of the symbols and the bobble.

Hi All - I was wondering if any of you had come across a necklace similar to this one.  It is a long heavy necklace with a rectangular pendant, which has a bird on one side and what looks like a flower mounted on a gray stone on the other.  There are what look to be Chinese words on the loop attaching the pendant.  It also has an engraved bobble at the end near the clip.

I don't see any other markings on it, such as a name or symbol for a company.  It came from my grandmother who traveled to China 15 years ago or so, and I assume she bought it at that time.

Any thoughts?  Thanks!

When you're right, you're right (and you're right)!  I was hoping that the patterns might be named similarly for simlar patterns, but after trying to find the exact match, I don't think that's how it works.  Sorry, Amiga, it's probably just more frustrating to find something close than nothing at all  :-\
