Antique Questions Forum / No clue what this item is, but pictures are included.

Rummaging through my grandparents collection of items, we came across this.. weird box item... with what looks like a neon light inside of it and a timer. We have no clue what it is, its purpose, it's worth, but I was hoping someone here could help me with it. :-) I would very much appreciate any input about it as I can get. Thank you ahead of time!
