p.s. I agree about the corner of it. It is definitely torn (not all the say through), but mostly bent. I wish it was in better condition.  I almost thought of keeping this one, but there are some more I want, so I was going to sell it to be able to get more, ha ha. That is the way I do it a lot of times.  I am going back and forth on it.

Also, there isn't any writing on the back of it. :(

Very interesting! Thanks for the suggestions! I will use all of them. I appreciate them all, because it is a big help.  Definitely stuff I never thought of at all. :)

Hi love the tin. I think you might have paid a little to much. one sold on ebay for $21.50 plus $6 for shipping. It would make a great display piece. The way I look at it,if you like it then it was worth it. :)

bigwull, here's some pictures of the edge of the glass. It looks like one piece to us. You can see where there is an area of small chips around the edge. I also included another photo of the piece out in the sunlight. Thank you for the replies.

Hey everyone, this is getting very interesting. we emailed the Holy Name Society and sent these same pics. We were contacted by a Bishop that let us know he forwarded it to the President of the Society. within a hour we received a email from the president. He told us that the picture is of Jesus when he was 12 to 14 years old. He also wants to know what we intend to do with it and that he was going to forward this to his fellow national holy name officers and get back with us. I think i might have finally found a good piece!!! will let you know what happens

We looked that up on the link you provided. That is definitely their symbol! Thanks for that information. I am still wondering what time period this may have come from, if it is rare or if there are many out there.  I am thinking I may see if we can contact them.

I agree with Rauville. I have about 15 of these bottles. I would say 10 to 20 dollars is about the right price range. I think it would be really cool to dig them up.

With the bed warmer I see one (1) spout for filling/emptying water and one (1) projection for inserting a long handle into.

That type of bed warmer would have been used to "slide under the covers", via the long handle, to warm up your bed before you got into it.

It wasn't made to "keep you warm" after you got into bed.

hi    that makes perfect sense. larger spout for handle and since it doesnt open up the smaller would be for filling it. appreciate your response.

hi    it does not open up. its like a canteen with 2 spouts. the up close pic shows what looks like the spouts might have been applied to canteen part. i dont know how they did it in 1860's. thanks for your response!!

Antique Questions Forum / 1860"s bed warmer?

Hi everyone, wanted to share a couple auction finds and get your opinion. the first is supposed to be a civil war era bed warmer. i didnt see it at the preview so I didnt get to look at it but when i heard them bidding on a cival war era piece and it was about to end at $25 i jumped in and got it for $27.50. I have not been able to find one that has two spouts coming out of it. i also have a issue where it looks like the 2 spouts were applied to it. I am not sure of the technology they had in those days, but i am concerned the way its done is not the way they would have done it in the 1860's. it only really shows on one side.  I took a close up of this side.  I am wondering if it could have been a later repair . The main part is the size of a dinner plate. Even if a repro I still like it. what do you all think? The other item is a cane that folds into a stool from
1939 new york worlds fair. I thought it was neat and at $20 couldnt lose.

Antique Questions Forum / abc posters
« on: January 22, 2013, 07:11:28 pm »
Hi everyone, I know you deal more with antiques but I thought I would ask about these posters I picked up at a paper auction. my wife and myself have not been able to find them on the internet and I would like to know if they could be rare. I know they are late 70s advertising posters for abc. 2 of them have a signature, the blue one does not. any info would be appreciated. I usually dont collect paper items but thought they were neat. The poster is not faded, that is just the glare. thanks AA
