Verdigris is the common name for a green pigment obtained through the application of acetic acid to copper plates...

And the most common acetic acid that most people had at hand...was pee! I remember an old general contractor foreman on a new church project that was designed with an "aged" sheet copper roof over the nave. After the copper was installed, he would bark out an order to anyone that didn't appear busy enough: "Go up and pi_ _ on the roof!" :D

Yup, I have read about sculptors instructing their assistants to pee on the completed bronze statues.

Thanks for the info.

That hardware of the past site looks great, it has tons of stuff that I need.

I got this rocking chair at a garage sale some time ago.
It is strange because it has holes that are plugged up with wood dowels (for no apparent reason), as well as nail holes with no nails in them.  Maybe it was made from some other broken chair pieces, or was made by a beginner and they messed up and had to move some of the spokes or something.  perhaps the nail holes are because it once had an upholstered seat.  Now for a seat it has the circular piece that is some kind of compacted fibrous material (lincrusta if its old or maybe just fiber board if its new?) there is an embossed image of a disgorging green man on the seat.

Any estimates on the date?

Thanks

I am wondering at the age of this dining room set.  I got it on craig's list from a young couple who also got it on craig's list.

Here is the buffet

Thanks.

Thanks for the information.   Now that you mention mahogany, I believe it was another desk that I looked at and didn't end up getting was the cherry one from the guy's father, and this was the one where the guy said if he didn't sell this and get it out of the garage, his wife was threatening to chop it up for firewood.  Not the smartest thing to say 'before' negotiating on the price  :P.

If I wanted to search closely for a makers mark, on what parts of the desk should I look?

Thanks

Thanks for the date estimation.  That's what I paid for it too, $50.

Yeah instead of the original ashtray I am using a punched sheet-metal one that happens to fit.
What does the correct one look like?  Plain glass or are there any decorations?

Any ideas on the date or manufacturer of this desk?
I wasn't able to find any identifying markings on it,  I got it from a guy on craigslist who said he got it from his father and that it is made of cherry wood, not much to go on.
It is a fairly small desk with a parquetry border along the top.

Any ideas on the date or information of this ashtray?
It says wellington stone co number 7 on the underside of the top
and a patent is stamped on the bottom

I saw the same one in a google search but it wasn't sold, that seller said it was turn of the century.  I got this one at a local antique shop.

Thanks.

Thanks for the tips, I'll get an estimate from a local cabinet maker and see what he says.  I would want it in oak to match my trim, but those boards look pretty 'chunky', I wonder if they are solid or hollow.

Hi sugarcube, which is your favorite city to look for antiques in?  Mine would probably be saint paul or farmington.
