Antique Questions Forum / Re: Carved Flip Top Table

Thanks for all the feedback...I found a table that is very similar, minus the carving...

The picture to the far right (bottom of the feet) shows the "strapping" I mentioned...nails are on par with mine

I do not know much about the table other than my father purchased it at an antique market in the 1970s...He thought it was great, my mother always thought it was maybe Mexican. The design is hand carved. The flip mech is old, there is strapping under the feet which is nailed with what appear to be handmade nails. However the top was on originally it has been screwed in with modern screws but there is one original looks hand made square nail still there. The top is made from seperate pieces and as you see it is splitting.

I am not sure if it is original or if someone has used a base and added a top or carved an existing table...

From my last go I will probably need to add pics but I am going to put up what I have...would be nice to get a start on maybe where it is from and some other basics...

Last but not least the makers mark which is an upside down H.S. on the back of the seat...sorry it is a bit fuzzy...

Even without the pics just the name smokers chair brought up alot more relevent pics and info...

So before I get more info I am going to guess and put it here for posterity (or posteriority if I am wrong:) ).

I think they are like 1890-1910,manufactered but perhaps hand asembled, English...Not sure on wood, my father was good at that but not me...

Sorry it took me a bit to get these and get back. I was in a rush and didnt post in the Intro section but the brief rundown is that these and the other items I need to ID are my parents and it has fallen to me to thin things out since they are downsizing.

I do not know exactly where they came from, probably a local dealer in the 70s,possibly an auction. They were used as regular chairs at the house. They are HEAVY suckers and not suited for future use.

I live right outside Washington DC.

I will post all the new pics following, this one is the front.

Will do in a bit now that I know how to size and post...The mark is obvious of course but in regard to the other photos what would be of use ?

I am trying to get this up as a first post and see how I do !

Looking for any info (age, wood, value etc) on a set of pub chairs.

Have makers mark/stamp on back of seat H.S, I looked for a database but didnt find one.
