took these in daylight...there are also 2 faint shallow divets on the bottom of the plate on the other side of the back rim, they are so faint I just could not get them to photograph.

positive, was a wedding present , from her mother ...the log shows "scallop edge hand painted Meissen luncheons" from Mother and Daddy ;)...and my grandmother had them and passed them down...I am going to pull another one out that might show up better detail on back

That photo does not even resemble the same plate but......Even if it is not real, it has to be from the late 1800's, as it was listed in the guest book as a wedding present in 1886 or 87, not that that changes anything about the authentid=city.

These plates (luncheon size) have crossed swords and have very little of the gilt on the scalloped edges, also I think it is one of the more common Meissen patterns to turn up in US...but just wondering what a value might be or how to determine. I saw 12 for sale for $800, that doesn't mean anyone would pay thet...and I am assuming the lack of gold will considerably lower the value? And yes I know they might not be real, but how to determine?

I blew up the mark, will see if it shows up bigger...Most of the marKs for Moses and other Trenton seem to have no detail and also use the coat of arms of NJ, according to the site...but I din't find a photo, only drawings

Next one up...pretty little tureen or covered dish...It is about 7 in high with the lid on and the plate is about 7 in in diameter. I have not had any luck with this mark, found ones that were close, but I would like to know if there is a pattern as well. Thanks

Oh I am not buying, just using the info for identification...I really doubt it is worth the trouble for selling...

Well...after too much sitting and typing; look what I found! This looks identical to the pieces I have !  Check out bottom one on link     http://users.skynet.be/rutrene/meissen-imitations11.htm
Also here is a photo of a piece that sold online auction...again, marks and the piece itself look identical to what I have.                      http://www.aspireauctions.com/auction219/details/34496.html
That $65 sold is painful, but the hunt sure was fun! And I never give up. Thanks for the input, let me know if you all agree......and never fear I have more things to post !

thanks for the info....I was already pretty sure it is not Meissen,; I think it is some kind of mark from the Tiefenfurt/Silesia makers, although not sure. Anyway, thanks for the info!

Antique Questions Forum / SOLVED ! Possible Meissen or Tiefenfurt. ?
« on: April 06, 2013, 11:57:55 am »
Hi, and thanks in advance for any help. We recently inherited some pieces from my grandmother that she always claimed to be Meissen. Regardless of the authenticity of the pieces, I know that they are very old and beautiful. However it would be nice to know what you have and the correct history. below are the marks and a closeup of the first pattern...as I do have multiple pieces to inquire about, I will be patient and post only a piece or two. there are 11 soup plates, not sure how many cups and saucers, 2 tea pots, a small coffee pot  that I know of in the set. The cups you can almost see through they are so thin. I have researched as best I can, and some experts say it is a mark used by Tiefenfurt? (the "S" being for Silesia?)to copy Meissen and that his product was mainly exported to the USA to housewives who craved the fancy Meissen that was unobtainable. And if this is the case, is it worth anything other than the fact that it is lovely? Thanks again, i have really enjoyed learning from this forum!
