Thanks for the tip! Maybe I'll try that.

Thanks for the research. Those actually are my tiles. Haha. I've listed them online for that price, but haven't had much luck. I listed them without knowing what they are in hopes that people would recognize what they are and be interested in them. But since that hasn't happened, I thought I'd come here. Thanks for passing that along, though!  :)

Antique Questions Forum / Four Porcelain Japanese Hand-Painted Tiles
« on: April 23, 2013, 07:28:19 pm »
Hello again,

I have four hand-painted Japanese tiles that are pretty interesting, but I'm not sure about them. Were they just decorative or something more? Any idea when they were likely made or value? They measure about 5.5" x 2.5" each and are about .25" thick. A couple of them have chipped corners and a few stray marks on them. Any insight would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I'm not sure if these would help much either, but I thought I'd take a couple closer pictures of the non American flag and the eagle shield. Maybe you'll all be able to notice something by getting a better look...

I'm not sure whether this would help at all, but here is a close up picture of just the stars. I was also wondering if there might be more stars than actually visible. That star in the middle seems like it could be a few stars that look clustered together due to the way the flag is draped. And it doesn't seem the stars form a specific pattern either. Then again, I know nothing about what's being shown so I could be totally wrong.

Haha. Thanks for sharing the possibilities. I, too, thought maybe the other flag could have been Swedish at first, but I still couldn't get anywhere with that. I appreciate the background info!

Antique Questions Forum / Help Identifying Patriotic Cloth Tapestry(?)
« on: April 23, 2013, 12:39:07 pm »
Hello,

Does anyone know what this piece might be? I referred to it as a tapestry for lack of a better word. It measures 31" x 31". I have tried to learn more about the image that is sewn into this, but have had no luck identifying it. I can't even place the second flag on it. I thought this was an interesting piece, so I decided to pick it up when I saw it. If anyone has any information about what its significance might be and if it has any value, I'd appreciate it. Thanks as always!

Keep in mind that Wendy said, "in a good market" !!  And it hasn`t been lately !!

Understood. Even if it's a little short of that, it's still better than what I had expected. I had no idea it is as scarce as it seems to be.

Thank you all for the information, especially bigwull and wendy! I had a really hard time finding anything about this but I knew there were some people on here who would know something. If it is indeed in that $800+ range, than it was a very good auction :) Thanks again, all!

Hello

I just came across this forum and was wondering if someone here might be able to help me. I picked up an interesting milk glass bottle at an auction recently, but I'm having trouble finding much info on it. It has two pieces: the column-shaped bottle and a gold-painted topper of Christopher Columbus holding a globe. The bottle measures about 12.5" to the cork and the topper measures just over 7". When stacked, it is just over 18" tall. The topper is not attached to the cork, but is hollow and simply conceals the cork. The only info that came with this was a label that said it is from the 1870s. The piece is in excellent condition.

I've tried finding info online, but have not been able to find much. I did find this auction website in which a very similar piece was included in a set.

Does anyone know any more about this? Was it used for alcohol? What is its individual value? Anything anyone may be able to offer would be much appreciated. Thank you all for your time.
