Amazed at how little information is available about the Glassichord.   The auction houses are familiar with them but appear to be uninterested due to limited market.   Not certain how to go about selling such an item.

KC - This piece is one of many very nice antiques from one of my clients.  I purchased coin collection and antique guns - now helping with the antiques - I have posted images of a Simon Willard clock, Chappell Glass Chord, Stickley table, and others - all in attempt to learn more about each.   A collector at heart, my education continues!!

This is what appears to be an original William and Mary Slant Top desk.  Beautiful piece with a provenance to Abraham Tourtillot circa 1790  - the desk is signed on the underside of one of the drawers by A H Tourtillot.  We have research stating the Mr. Tourtillot fought in the Revolutionary War.  We have bill of sale from Ginsberg and Levy 315 Madison Ave, NY dated 12/28/1955 - A. Arnold signature  -  Still seeking addition paperwork for owner to see if we have anything more specific to add to the provenance.   Welcome opinions and thought on continued research.

Table is definitely Stickley and not Stickley brothers.   Here are couple more images.

Here are images of a very nice miniature violin in case.  Violin and case both appear to be hand made but show no branding or makers marks.   Collectible antique of novelty piece?

Antique Questions Forum / Chappell Glass Chord Piano "Glassichord"
« on: June 18, 2014, 05:45:28 am »
Apparently one of Ben Franklins favorite musical pieces.  According to information published on "The Glass Armonica" website, In the winter of 1784/85, a Parisian physician named Beyer approached Franklin with an idea for constructing a kind of glass xylophone, played by means of mechanical hammers controlled by a keyboard. Franklin must have been intrigued by the idea, and gave Beyer his endorsement. Beyer presented a prototype to the Académie des Sciences in the spring of 1785, and received an enthusiastic reception. He then reminded Franklin of his promise to give a name to what the inventor had been calling simply 'the instrument'. Ever frugal, Franklin found a use for his formerly abandoned name, christened it the 'glasschord', and purchased one to take home with him to Philadelphia. Jefferson saw the instrument a week before Franklin left France and found it charming. Its tone was exceptionally sweet, he said, and Jefferson only regretted that its three-octave range was too short.

I posted some images of this a while ago in a posting with a few other antiques but I have taken a few more pictures and welcome opinions on this piece.  We are looking for the right outlet to sell this.  Any suggestions are also welcome.

Here are photos of a couple of the 5 Armenian copper plates I have and I'm trying to understand the writing on two of the plates and value of these plates as well.   Any help appreciated.  The smallest is just under 9" in diameter and has the writing shown in the first photo.. that same plate is photo two.  The others range in diameter from 10" to 15" - The third photo is a 10" plate.  The last image image with writing is from the largest 15" plate.   Thanks for any help.

Antique Questions Forum / Re: Two antique mirrors

I will get better pictures and check the back... I believe the unusual one has been "reglassed" and not with beveled glass.  The mantle mirror is original... will get photos.

Need help identifying these two mirrors.   These are part of a large group of very nice antiques but I am not at all familiar with either of these two mirrors.  Anyone know anything about these?

Glass pieces are definitely blue and there appears to be a handwritten number 148 inside upper left... here is a larger picture for a different angle.

I am not familiar with the term Glassichord but I do understand this to be a glass chord piano by Chappell.  And Yes, they are glass rods in the interior.   Here's a photo.

I know nothing about these so I am posting here hoping that the forum experts might shed some light on these.  I believe they are antique Chinese carvings but that's all I know.
