I found an ashtray of similar era and brass enamel at deceased estate last week end.Yours is much nicer and more detail. It was from 1960's and Hong Kong.I also purchased my first snuff bottle. My lid is stone and same era.
I love all of them!

A great story and you were meant to meet.Sorry to hijack your thread but I read it and have a spine chilling story that Happened to me today.I found an old rusty tin in a friends garage. My husband nearly threw it out.I bought it home and found all this memorabilia from world war 1 about a guy named Art Kirton.
This arvo I get a phone call from a guy picking up a rocking chair i sold on ebay.He said hi this is Art I am 10 minutes away.I said wow I am typing on the computer about some silk from ww1 from a guy named Art.He said how bazaar! OMG I just typed bazaar Too describing the note with the silk saying he bought in Cairo at the local bazaar! So I squealed and said I'll explain when you get here.Needless to say he was in awe when I showed him the tin with Art's silks from the bazaar.I think Art was approving of me saving and preserving his Family history.
Was this fate too?

Thanks so much Mart yes it is not important but like you I love researching and have plenty of time on my hands. My children asked me to let them know what is what so

i started putting all my "stuff" in a catalogue with what I know about each item. It's been fun. Then when i'm gone they can decide what to do with it. My daughter abso9lutely loves this piece so i know it will not be sold. i don't get attached to "stuff" like some collectors but this one is special.
Thanks for helping everyone
Not Batik fancypants but I have found an artist whose work resembles this one. When I find the link I shall post.
