The characters seem like Japanese to me. Whilst Kanji in Japanese is pretty much just Chinese characters, the stroke styles used in the picture seem more similar to Japanese calligraphy than Chinese.

The fourth picture, first character means "east" and third character means "way" or "path". not sure about others.

An interesting peice!

Hi All,

First time poster! Thanks in advanced for the replies.

I've recently acquired this cabinet/sideboard, but I'm not sure of the origin of it. I believe the front and top is a decorative Mahogany Veneer. The seller of the item claimed he obtained it from the 60's in Italy but it looks older than that? The sideboard weighs a tonne.

I've tried googling keywords but come up with nothing, so any clues would be greatly appreciated.
