Hello all. I hope everyone is doing well
I had some back problems and was down for a while. Has some surgery that I hope stays put.
But enough of that, I was wondering about this wonderful piece of old molded glass I have.
It's opalescence depending on where you hold it otherwise it just looks like milk glass with clear edges.
Not a big deal. I just appreciate what our ancestors made a long time ago and figure when we take a look see, we give them a shout out for the beautiful things they made back then.
Its about 1.5" high
2.5" across the top
1.5" across the bottom
weighs 167 grams
its is slightly off kilter ans has some marks deep into the glass
Thank you for taking the time to look and answer
Mary

So, you think it's a door handle or a lamp part?

Hello Mart. Mary Smith is a very common name! I wanted to tell you I had the Gould reframed and according to the framer it was an original litho. It turned out lovely. I will take some photos of the litho in its new frame tomorrow. Tell me if I picked well!

There seem to be so many similar I wonder if a particular factory made them and different companies bought and put there stamp on them.
Thank you both for looking. I re did an eBay search for both UK and USA and came up with nothing with the mark. Just a bunch of twisty branched candelabras looking quite the same

You would think that any reputable jewelry store would have someone that was qualified !! Otherwise what are they doing in a jewelry store !!

Really, right? Can you ask is they could possibly look at them for insurance reasons? If they are valuable I'm sure you would want to add them to your homeowners insurance. I would think any reputable jewelry store would do this for you...maybe for a small fee?

Thank you Ipcress, Dogman.
I'm not sure what you mean by "laid down". I did a search and checked out sites like this one http://www.oldprintshop.com/cgi-bin/gallery.pl?action=browse&creator_id=183. I doubt very much someone is going to give me top dollar fpr this. More than likely it would be a reseller that would be able to get double. That said, I just mentioned donating it to the hubby. He knows I'm a handbags freak and turned some 1980s gold jewelry I was left into some old LV :-). This deserves a bit more respect than to be turned into a ladies purse, I think.
Anyway, what better way to live on than leaving something lovely in ones name. Its a gesture that lasts forever.

I am with Frogpatch on this one !!  I have often told people when their items were under priced !! Especially if I know they arew just trying to make extra money at a garage sale or the like !! And like others I go by attitude of the seller !!  I get really irritated when a shop owner tries to tell me an object was made 100 years ago when I know better !! As far as taking a closer look,, its your money !! An undisclosed crack or chip takes money out of your pocket !!  I personally would look as closely as possible !!  If they look at you with that scrunched up brow,, just tell them you are still learning about it !!  No lie,, we all learn daily here !!
Just what Mart said. I wouldn't feel slighted if I was selling something expensive, a car, a vintage piece, anything and the buyer wanted to examine it closely. I might have missed something. I would hope sellers would give me the same courtesy. I prize honesty above all. Tell me you're not sure about something. I will respect you more than if you try to give me a line.

I took the back off and this is the reveal...This is unframed/ unglassed/unmatted
It looks like the picture was mounted on paper then the mat was attached. The glue was so old the picture came right off from the mat

Again, from what I see, these lithos are so undervalued that if it's worth just  a few hundred, I would probably donate it to a local museum rather than give it away.
Thank you

Promising, Mary.

Can you remove the nails and look at the print outside the frame ? If there's no other text beneath the image title then i think you're looking at a 19th original and not a mid 20th repro.

Nails look fairly old and should pull straight out. Then the back comes easily away and you can examine the plate.

Looks to have faded slightly so that will affect price anyway.
Ipcress, I will attempt to remove them tomorrow. There are so many and I want to take my time. Thank you for the look at.

Trade mark info: http://www.trademarkia.com/artini-72277974.html
Company info: http://www.nycompaniesindex.com/artini-arts-inc-2y5k/

I've seen the following on several bidding sites. Not sure how accurate the info is, nor who it came from. I would take it with a grain of salt.

"Artini Arts Incorporated was an art company that manufactured pieces of art. The company was created on August 10, 1967 in Bronx, New York. They have a few pieces of engraving art that were produced from the 1950s to 1970s. Nowadays, these pieces can sell for around $500 each. In the art market, these pieces are steadily rising in price. The material is compared to carrera marble and ivory and was invented through scientific and artistic research by Artini Arts, based in Bronx NY. The Artini factory was in business in the 1960's, 1970's and was an obscure art form even then. They ceased to be in business as of Feb. 2013 and will become harder to find."

Dogman, $500? Not if the people on ebay get to dictate the prices of anything. Too bad. These beautiful pieces can't get buyers at $20 from what I see. I will hang mine on the wall
I saw one on Ruby lane and she posted "Created by the engraving research studios of Artini Arts Inc.France (1950 -1970)." The Made in the Bronx NY sticker must have fallen off  ;D

I'm trying to find out if this is an original litho or a mid century reproduction.  I spoke to an appraiser that one of the local museums recommended but after talking to him I got the distinct impression that old Gould lithos were not his field. There seems to be enough great minds here to help me decide if it might be worth lugging this big old thing to an expert for a look see
The print itself inside the mat measures 20 by 13. With the frame 29 x 22
The frame is damaged as you can see. The front veneers are gone.
Its in good shape no rips or anything but it does have some stains like mold spots on the print and the mat.
It looks like it was mounted on solid wood that was nailed into the back of the  frame so I cant just remove it and take the print out

Mary,

I have something similar, but haven't documented value. Picture of what's on back might help you.
I just googled "artini" and from what I can see, I'm 100% sure that's what it is. Someone had a different Durer up on ebay.
This was definitely an  interesting discussion and I hope to learn more about the company that put out so much reproduced art in etchings
Thank you all.
