Antique Questions Forum / 175 Year old slate

I have recently supervised the roofing of the Saint Louis Cathedral Church in New Orleans.
I have acquired some of the slates from the roof,
will Pictures of the slates being removed authenticate these ?
If not what are the steps to.......... and what kind of value could I put on them...............
