Antique Questions Forum / Re: Can anyone tell me about this buffet

I just love the old furniture. I love the way it is made to last, the creativity of it. I am so tired of paying high prices for furniture and having it fall apart. 27 years ago I bought an antique reproduction couch, Dino Mark Anthony, I got it on clearance for 1200.00 dollars. My dad thought I was crazy at the time but that couch has held up like iron, through 3 kids and lots of pets. It still looks great. I have gone through many other couches and payed more money for some of them just to have them fall apart after a few years. I will be surprised if any of the things made today ever make it to antique statis.

No other human features on this piece but I do have a rocking chair with a face on it. I have to repair the rocker. One of my sons friends sat in it and broke the rocker :-\
I like to think of them as friends LOL. Thank you everyone this was so much fun. I think I am going to llike this forum

Very inreresting information. Thank you so much. This piece has been in the family for years. I reciently got bitten by the antique bug. I am fortunate that I have many old dishes, picture and jewelry handed down to me. My kids are now raised and I have time to pursue some of the things I have been interested in for years.
I am not interested in selling but do you know a ball park how much this buffet is worth?

This was handed down to me from my grandmother and she got it from her mother. I think it is from the 1850s. It is tiger oak with carved scaled hands that hold up the mirror and lion paw feet. It has an oval beveled mirror with carved rosess on it. I tried to post a picture but it was too big I will have to figure that out. Thank you in advance to anyone who can tell me something about this.
