Antique Questions Forum / Possibly Samuri Fighting swords or a Chinese officer's sword?

I have in my posession two swords that are very old. My grandpa brought them home with him from WWII. He was stationed at Okinawa as a truck driver and from what i've been told, he picked these swords up from some fallen soldiers. My grandpa died almost 10 years ago and the story died with him. My grandma doesn't know much about the swords so I am hoping for maybe a little information from anyone on here that may know about them. I will enclose pictures to help. Thanks!
Once I took the handle apart, I found this...
and this...
This is the second sword. Not nearly as detailed and no carvings on the inside of the handle.
I can always take more pictures if anyone needs me to but I hope the pictures provided help a little. I am VERY interested in learning ANYTHING about these swords because they actually really mean something to me. I have thought maybe the caligraphy (if that's what it's called) on base under the handle, could possibly be the name of the person who owned or made the sword. Could be a long shot, but I'm very curious. Thanks again!
