Antique Questions Forum / Giacometti "Tete de Femme" Lamp
« on: June 06, 2016, 11:30:30 pm »
Hello Everyone!

I recently acquired this beautiful (beauty is in the eye of the beholder) lamp.  ;D The research starts to get a little hazy as to who, what and where these were being made.  They can range anywhere from $80-$80,000.  Are there any experts out there that can point me in the right direction of finding some concrete information on the lamp I have.  Any help is greatly appreciated. This is my first time using the Photobucket method so please let me know if it did not work.

Thank you!

It is 3 1/2" x 1 3:4" with a 1" face.  Great feed Ipcress.  It looks like no one knows for sure yet.  I wasn't able to connect to any of the links in the feed.

Thank you very much for your responses.  It does appear to be a later one from the 19th century.

Hello Everyone!  I picked up this Hamilton watch housing assembly and I can't seem to find any info on it.  I was thinking military because of Hamilton's history in producing military watches and the heavy duty steel case it's in but a frien of mine said no.  Any help would be great.  Thank you!

I'm not sure where to even begin.  It's solid brass about 12" long and only one end on the long section opens.  The long container section housed the two small pieces of bamboo that are sharpened at one end.  The small bowl area has what appears to be horse hair.  Any help on what this might be would be greatly appreciated.

Antique Questions Forum / Iwo Jima Combat Correspondance
« on: July 17, 2015, 04:37:42 pm »
It has been awhile since I have posted.  I hope everyone is well.

I recently acquired a 5 page eye witness account combat Correspondance of the first 9 hours after troops landed on Iwo Jima.  This, to me, is an amazing piece of history.  My question is does this have any monetary value?  The photo of the correspondent was added by me.  Apparently he is well known and I was able to find a photo of him.  I thought it added a little to the message being able to see what he looked like.  Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Jerry!

I do have the counting sticks and dice with the set.  The tiles are dovetailed with bamboo and I'm guessing bone.  Do you think the holders are part of the same set?

Hi Guys!

Is there anyone familiar with these sets that could determine an approximate age and/or value.  In my research I have found them ranging from $20-$1,000 and they all look very similar.  I'm not sure if the tile holders are from the same set.  To me they look newer.  Any help would be great.

Thank you!

Antique Questions Forum / Re: Persian Rug?
« on: January 11, 2015, 10:18:00 pm »
So I took the rug down to a local dealer yesterday.  It is a Bijar rug which is a city in Iran.  These (Bijar) rugs were hand made in India with all natural dyes.  This particular style with the medallion in the middle were made from the early 70's to the mid 90's and the approximate value, this size, is from $1,800 to $2,400.  The guy was really nice and never offered to buy it.  He said I should keep it for myself because everyone should have a nice rug in their house.

Thanks for the help guys!
